The issue could be caused by cookies or browser extensions. You may stop extensions and clean browser cookies. You might try using a different web browser to test it.
I’ve encountered the same issue. I tried using the shortcut (Ctrl + K), clearing my browser cache, and even more drastic measures, such as switching devices and browsers, but nothing worked. It seems to be an account-specific issue, as I logged into my girlfriend’s ChatGPT account on the same devices, and the search icon appeared normally.
P.S. I have always been a Plus user, and my girlfriend’s account is also a Plus user. However, I recently upgraded to Pro, which interestingly coincides with the appearance of this bug.
The OpenAI help page How to Search Past Conversations suggests using ctrl + k on PC and cmd + k on Mac, but these keyboard shortcuts don’t seem to be functioning as expected.
Ctrl+Win+k doesn’t work for me. Tried upper/lower case, on Chrome/Edge/Windows desktop app, none worked. The thing is that the “search magnifying glass icon” simply doesn’t exist in the UI.
I’m seeing the same issue with MS Edge on PC. I might be missing something. I have had the magnifying glass and have been able to search my chats before. I have an active Plus subscription. Search shows up on my iOS app. I’ll keep looking at my browser config and try to report back.
I tried playing around with site permissions at allow all and also allowed all cookies, but I think there’s something else going on. Search is working on iOS though. Interesting situation. I might be able to test another browser on another machine later.
To be honest, the function reappeared today without me performing any “browser cookies cleaning” operation.
On PC, Ctrl+K does something else, if you want to clear the browser cache the shortcut to use is Ctrl+F5 (force the browser to retrieve the webpage from the server instead loading it from the cache)
I’m have the same issue. I am a paying Plus customer. I also don’t have the magnifying glass for searching chat history; and I see know way to enable it in the settings. Can someone from Support help?
