The long-awaited availability of the GPT-4 API finally arrived, bringing excitement to many users. However, they were met with an unidentified barrier

On July 6th, the revelation from OpenAI left a significant impression on users, giving them the impression that “all users with successful payment history can now access the GPT-4 API.”

However, things weren’t as simple as they seemed. During the rollout, numerous users expressed their doubts and frustrations about not being able to use the GPT-4 series models, leading to an ongoing situation of disappointment. Below are some of the rumors that have been circulating:

  • Official information: Users with successful payment history are eligible.
  • Uncertain information: Users with successful payments below $1 are not eligible.
  • Uncertain information: Users must be on the waitlist and have received permission to use the GPT-4 API via email.
  • Uncertain information: Even users who received permission to use the GPT-4 API via email sometimes find themselves unable to access it.

If there are any corrections to the above information or if there is any confirmed information, I would appreciate being informed. Additionally, if anyone kind enough has knowledge of a solution, please share the information. Thank you in advance.

Not in my case.

Not in my case. I was not on any waitlist for accessing GPT4, but I received an email that I have access to it now. Based on this rollout.
The account had successful payments below $1, and the main thing is that the account was old. So they are rolling it out in increments with the oldest accounts first.

Thank you for the information! Based on the following conditions, is it correct to interpret that starting from July 6th, the use of GPT-4 API is available?

  • The payment is less than $1 (with only a few API usages and no payment history)
  • No special email notifications were received.

The point about “prioritizing older accounts” seems to be crucial. Thank you for providing this valuable information.

Thank you for raising awareness about these issues to the OpenAI team. I hope this leads to a swift resolution. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I have been using Chat GPT API since the beginning of June, however I still do not see any information in billing history, so I am assuming that means I do not qualify as “having a successful payment history” (because I do not yet have access to the GPT-4 API). How frequently is this updated? Will I receive access to GPT-4 API when this occurs?

Thanks!
Looking forward to using GPT-4.

I don’t have access to the GPT-4 API either. Despite having made a successful payment in May. I uploaded my invoice and receipt to someone on their messenger. She read all of my messages and saw the documents I uploaded. She responded first thinking I was a ChatGPT Plus subscriber. After I uploaded everything about the API, she stopped reading my messages. It has been 10 minutes since I sent the last message about it and it says it is “Not seen yet,” however, I can see that Kathleen is online still.

Today all existing API developers with a history of successful payments can access the GPT-4 API with 8K context. We plan to open up access to new developers by the end of this month, and then start raising rate-limits after that depending on compute availability.

About 30 seconds after I posted that, Kathleen went offine. I guess she did not want to talk about it anymore?

There is no indication on their website that it only applies to those with payments above $1 or prioritizing older accounts. It simply says:

Today all existing API developers with a history of successful payments can access the GPT-4 API with 8K context. We plan to open up access to new developers by the end of this month, and then start raising rate-limits after that depending on compute availability.

If it is true that payments under $1 don’t qualify, then that is false advertising.

After Kathleen logged off, I cut and pasted the entire chat to another chat and was informed that the team will be back tomorrow. So, Kathleen was online for well over 10 minutes after reading my messages, but decided not to respond because apparently they were about 10 or 20 minutes from ending the day. That is extremely unprofessional and extremely poor customer service for any company. You guys should review my chat log and address this with your employee.
