I created an OpenAI API account and have so far added $5 in credits twice. I have also actually “spent” $5 in credits. However, I am still stuck in the “Free” tier. I have met all the criteria to be Usage Tier 1. This makes no sense. I have logged out and logged back in. Still stuck in the free tier. I even created an API Key for the account after adding the initial credits, as one user on here suggested.
I saw some threads from back in Sept 2024 that this was a known bug, yet that was over 7 months ago and I haven’t been able to see more recent reports. Anyone else experiencing this recently?
UPDATE: I emailed support@openai.com and described the situation. They replied and moved me to Tier 1 within 24 hours.
You’re not alone, it’s definitely an issue on openai’s side. That’s honestly driving me nuts because my whole project is stuck because of this. I’ve been waiting for over 24hrs now and had to contact support 4 times to finally get it escalated.
If you contact them through the live chat, they (at least in my case) just send you a generic answer about “submitting a request” through X or Z way on the platform but don’t bother trying to look follow the guide and look for the form, that option isn’t available on their current version of the website, just send support an email on support@openai.com and they will escalate it.
My issue is still active, so don’t quote me up on that, but its the only way I find to try and get it resolved quickly
same thing happened to me but it resolved itself (i did contact support multiple times).
I’m also a verified user.
I did also add an additional $5 in hopes that it would retrigger the tier check. It didn’t on purchase but then 2-3 hours later support said it was working for me already and then when I checked it was. Not sure what the trigger was. Was it support helping me? Was it the retrigger after purchasing more credits? Was it a cron job on their end that they run every 6 hours or something? It’s not clear at all.
Same happened to me. Topped up 2 times to a 30 and nothing.. I just wanted to test Codex … I was hoping there will be some annoucement, and right now even help button does not work on the limits page
I am having the same issue @vb had resolved months back regarding the Free Tier. I’m stuck in the free Tier even though I have purchased $15 in credits and used over $5 of those.
Gah, sorry about this. We’re investigating what’s wrong here. It does look like your accounts were stuck in the free tier. In the meantime, I’m going to manually upgrade you all to tier 1. I’ll post here once we get to the bottom of this.
Tier upgrades are now working again and organizations that should’ve been upgraded will be retroactively upgraded today. We’re sorry for the delay here.
