Operator is broken – and it’s definitely NOT a browser or OS issue!
Let’s make one thing very clear:
The “Operator not able to type in input fields” bug is not a browser problem, not a Windows problem, not a Mac problem – it’s an Operator problem, 100%.
Here’s my quick checklist:
Tested on Windows and Mac – problem stays the same.
Tested on multiple browsers:
Brave → same issue
Edge → same issue
Tried private/incognito mode – makes no difference.
All browser extensions disabled – still broken.
No matter what I try, same error:
“Something went wrong. Please try again.”
And Operator just freezes up.
It doesn’t matter what I do. This is NOT a user problem. This is not a local config problem. It’s not some obscure extension. It’s not a cache issue. It’s not Windows. It’s not Mac. It’s not Brave or Edge or Chrome or anything else. It’s simply a ChatGPT Operator issue.
Others have the same issue
There’s a whole thread in the OpenAI Developer Community where everyone is running into exactly this. No workaround, no solution.
People are stuck, Operator just freezes after a few seconds, no typing possible, and the “Retry” button does nothing.
I’m having the exact same problem. I’ve raised it to customer support but they’ve asked me to simply troubleshoot it. I’ve run through all of the attempts you noted above. Nothing. It’s been down for me since Friday afternoon (6/27).
I’ve been using it for my business and it sucks having to go back to manually doing all of these tasks that I’ve figured out how to outsource to Operator (especially after paying $200/month).
If you find a fix, please post here or somewhere else on the forum. Hoping it gets resolved soon.
I am also experiencing outages with operator. If you open the network tab and look at one of the most recent requests when it fails, you’ll see ComputerToolCallFailed near the bottom in a big json blob. It’s an issue with one of their tools and I guess they are too busy fixing other issues to care about operator. Except why would I pay $200/month to chat gpt if they don’t have operator? I would just use claude instead.
Thank you for reporting this with detailed testing. Hopefully this will catch someone’s eye. I reported the issue here before but for some reason my topic got closed after a while.
got no fix.
like i mentioned in the GenAi Assisted posts,
i tired the usual IT “change underwear, fresh socks and empty trashbin” approach.
Its 101% OpenAI error.
Sadly I also cant “afford” 200% to "make a new OpenAi Account just to “splittest”…
As to be expected of US-Corporate-Companies, after days no fix, no support, no reaction.
what you mean with claude? clause the generic “synthetic” Desktop Agent… With Operator, you can Live Edit your Prompts. Thats massive. All those other Desktop Automater cant do that. eg the skyvern-Garbage.
And thats why I used Operator. Its slow, but when set right and it worked, the quality is 100%. And if i needed it to fix something else, i can fine tune the stream.
Man, I really hate writing without GenAi
It’s crazy to think that for such a broad outage of its product, there has been zero acknowledgement from @OpenAI_Support . Even the statue page shows operator as fully available without any errors
seems to be working for me again.
its slow, it lags, but when it runs, it runs and the results are real, and not this synthetic benchmark felgercarp like Claude, Fritz, Herbert or Jens …
Finally, I tried posting about this and contacting customer support to no avail. Glad its not just me. Tried the same default troubleshooting as everyone else. it been happening to me for a few weeks now though.
