Lost access to memory of years and months of work overnight — ChatGPT Pro account deactivated with no warning and no reason

Hi everyone,

I’m posting here because I’m honestly at a loss and hoping someone — maybe even someone from OpenAI — can help point me in the right direction.

2 days ago, my ChatGPT account was deactivated. No warning, No email explaining what I violated. Just… gone. I’ve been a paying subscriber for a long time — I’m on the Pro plan (5x usage), my subscription was purchased through the App Store and is still active — so this wasn’t a billing issue.

What makes this especially painful is that ChatGPT and Codex are not just a tool I use casually. It’s deeply integrated into how I work. My conversation history, project context, accumulated memory, ongoing work — all of it is locked inside that account. Losing access doesn’t just mean I can’t use an AI assistant. It means I’ve lost continuity on everything I’ve been working on. I can’t pick up where I left off. I can’t reference past context. Months of work and years of memory, just inaccessible. Every day this drags on makes it worse.

The frustrating part isn’t just the suspension — it’s the complete lack of explanation. I’ve gone through everything I can think of and I genuinely cannot identify what I did wrong, because I don’t believe I did anything wrong. I’ve always used the platform within what I understood to be the terms of service.

That said, thinking back, there is one thing I want to flag in case it’s relevant: a couple of days before the suspension, I installed an open-source tool from GitHub called Cockpit (cockpit-tools), which is designed for Codex account management and usage tracking. I authorized it using my ChatGPT login. I want to be completely transparent about this — I genuinely didn’t think it was violating any rules, and I had no idea it could potentially be a problem. Because my account is currently suspended and I can’t log in, I’m unable to revoke its access right now — but that’s the first thing I’ll do the moment my account is reinstated.

I’ve already submitted a formal appeal through the support channel and I’m more than happy to cooperate fully. I can provide:

  • Proof of my active Pro (App Store) subscription and payment history
  • Details of my account usage
  • Information about the Cockpit tool and how I used it
  • Any other documentation that might help clarify the situation

I’m not here to cause a scene. I just want to understand what happened and get my account reinstated as soon as possible. Every day without access is not just an inconvenience — it’s cutting me off from my own work history and memory that I’ve built up over a long period of time.

Has anyone else run into something similar, especially with third-party Codex tools? Any advice on how to escalate or get a faster response would be hugely appreciated.

For reference, my support case IDs are: C-mjbppfHrUMMo (API - Access Deactivated) and C-UGbbrid2HAKw (Account - Access Deactivated).

Thanks
