Live Camera & Screen Share in Advanced Voice Mode – Camera Icon Appears but Feed Unresponsive (Android, ChatGPT 5)

I’m a ChatGPT Plus subscriber using the mobile app on Android. Until recently, I could use the live camera and screen sharing features in Advanced Voice Mode without any issues. Now, both features have stopped functioning.

What’s happening:

  • The camera icon still appears in Advanced Voice Mode.

  • When I tap it, the preview opens, but ChatGPT does not process or respond to what the camera sees.

  • Screen sharing via the three-dot menu is also unresponsive.

What I’ve checked:

  • I’m running ChatGPT 5, not GPT-4o mini.

  • I have not used these features at all today, so it’s not a daily usage limit issue.

  • The same device and permissions work fine for live camera and screen share with Google Gemini.

  • App is fully updated, permissions are granted, I’ve signed out/in, and I’ve reinstalled the app.

Support interaction:

  • I contacted OpenAI support. After clarifying that it’s not a usage limit or model fallback, they escalated the case to a support specialist (waiting 2–3 days for a reply).

  • The last time these features worked for me was May 2025.

What I’m looking for:
Has anyone else on Android with ChatGPT 5 experienced this? Were you able to fix it? I’d appreciate any advice or workarounds that might restore the live video and screen sharing functions before I hear back from support.

Thanks in advance!

Yes. I’m experiencing exactly what you are. I performed all the steps that you did to try to resolve it.

I’ve seen multiple complaints regarding the update not being fully baked and buggy before it was released.

Sam Altman made a statement yesterday that they were going to enable paid subscribers to toggle back to 4.0 while they work out the bugs. As of now I have not seen that option available.

I’m in a Pixel 9 XL. You?

Yes I have exactly the same issue. It appears to be a bug in gpt 5

Since they introduced the GPT-5 model, neither the camera mode nor the screen share has been working for me. Furthermore, the voice mode didn’t switch to GPT-5 and stayed on 4.0.

They haven’t managed to solve the problem in two days.

Dear OpenAI, this is really poor!
I recommend the other affected users to switch to Gemini — camera mode and screen sharing work perfectly there. Oh wait, and you can use it for free!

Same here. It looks like they haven’t tried to fix this issue at all.

Now, it works well again!

(Android, Samsung Galaxy S24)

However, the function appears to use 4o instead of GPT-5. When I want to continue working on my PC afterwards, only 4o is active, and I cannot return to GPT-5. The model is grayed out with a note stating that GPT-5 does not support audio.
