Links are not clickable, no matter what prompt I use the stupid AI never adds the link so that I can click it and view it.
same, I have also been running into this. I had to ask several times for the correct formatting. I checked the HTML source and noticed the anchor tags were disappearing or nonexistent. I think the issue fixed itself after I refreshed the page, started a new chat, and then returned to the previous chat. makes no sense
Until you sue them or report them for torture they will not fix anything, be sure of it.
i tried telling them âdont put it in blue textâ and it worked lol
Speedy removing bugs and/or viewing at the bug thread on this forum, is not a thing OpenAI is good at. They got billions from Microsoft, so why not use some of that to remove bugs.
A single OpenAI programmer can fix this issue in a few minutes. You donât need 100 of them.
Providing the custom instruction
settings->personalize->custom instructions->How would you like ChatGPT to respond?-> âAlways place the full URL in the href attribute of any HTML link you reference.â
has fixed this issue for me.
But please any future reader, downvote any replies youâve had with broken links. This is the most likely way to make openai fix this issue. If enough people say the same, a pattern will be recognized.
I recommend we all give similar feedback such as
âa html links in responses dont contains a href link and are uselessâ
This way the pattern may be recognized faster.
@fusiondesigner
But please any future reader, downvote any replies youâve had with broken links.
Do you mean upvote?
I agree that visibility is important. Squeaky wheel gets the grease
Edit: Oh I see what you mean. We should downvote the ChatGPTâs responses with a thumbs down. Yes I agree.
Still not fixed⌠and wow is it frustrating. ChatGPT is a tool. I have the paid version, I mean I have the PRO paid version, and it canât add links? I guess that is not what Iâm paying forâŚ
Still broken for me 1/31/25
Still not fixed, no matter what is prompted, links are UNCLICKABLEâŚ
Still not fixed. In 2025, canât click links 4o provides.
Links are SOMETIMES clickable. I decided to do some exploration and talk with ChatGPT a bit to see why.
Some things I discovered.
- ChatGPT uses markdown to embed links.
- When plain text is hyperlinked, the link is unclickable.
â[Google](https :// google.com )
- When a URL is hyperlinked, the link works fine.
â[https :// google. com](https :// google.com )
- If ChatGPT does a websearch and cites sources, the source links can be clicked normally.
- If ChatGPT cites sources and then adds links in a different message, some of them can be clicked, but not all, and it seems to be random.
Hereâs my example chat:
https://chatgpt.com/share/67bfc390-23cc-800f-8700-8408a813cde7
The first response has a link thatâs clickable.
The 2nd and 3rd one both try to send you to a ChatGPT conversation.
In the other responses, some of the links are clickable, some are not.
Even more strange is that the markdown for these links doesnât differ in format.
- **[The Useless Web](https://theuselessweb.com/)**: Click a button, land on a delightfully pointless site. Because who needs productivity?
- **[Click the Red Button](https://clicktheredbutton.com/)**: For those moments when you think, "I have too much time and not enough distractions."
- **[Random-ize](https://random-ize.com/random-website/)**: Dive into a sea of weird, funny, and downright baffling websites. Curiosity didn't kill the cat; boredom did.
- **[RandomGenerate.io](https://randomgenerate.io/random-website-generator)**: Let fate (or a random algorithm) decide your next online destination. Adventure is just a click away.
- **[Random Website Machine](https://www.whatsmyip.org/random-website-machine/)**: Over three million sites await your perusal. Who knows? You might find the next big thing... or not.
Happy exploring! Remember, it's not procrastination; it's digital serendipity. đ
What does this all mean? It means that there is no reliable way to add custom instructions to get ChatGPT to reliably create working links when chatting to you.
OpenAI please fix this
Asking ChatGPT to write out the hyperlinks also works
The workaround that has become most comfortable for me is to follow the initial prompt with this:
Please repeat that same information to me again, but type out the full URL address for all web links.
This again produces a mark-down formatted output with links, but the links will all be clickable now; even if not, you can simply copy-paste the URL.
Same issue with ChatGPT o3-mini-high.
Hello i have the the chatgpt pro paid version and still none of the links have work, this been happening for months and still no fix, no susgestion from admins, nothing at all, should we all just go back to the free version instead?
Itâs really poor do they read forums
4o is telling me it can only generate clickable links to a very short list of whitelisted domains. I donât know if itâs BSing me or not.
Whoâs still here (suffering this bug) in 2025?
Also, to all the haters saying theyâll never focus time on fixing itâŚcanât OpenAI just likeâŚask ChatGPT to fix it??
Pulling my hair over here. I managed to âfixâ it in one chat, but my latest chat is just doing everything to not give me clickable links. The href is missing each time, and when I try to correct it the damn thing prints the full html, with href, <pre>
.
Annoying like hell. Stuff like this should be learned globally by the model, but no. I guess itâs unsecure to allow it. Grok and Gemini does not have any issues with this.
Also noticed an error when getting a config file for Pterodactyl (Game server panel).
If I copy with the button I get:
unit]
While the start of the config has to be:
[Unit]
Guess it will never be fixed since this thread is almost 1 year old.
