I’m experiencing a recurring problem when trying to upload or share ZIP files with ChatGPT. Despite creating the ZIP files correctly with all the necessary details, the system won’t accept or access them. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Recreating the ZIP files multiple times.
Clearing cache and restarting the process.
Re-uploading the files via different methods.
Using different browsers on my phone and PC.
Trying platforms like Google Drive for sharing.
Unfortunately, none of these methods have worked. Even when I ensure everything is set up perfectly, ChatGPT won’t access my ZIP files. Sometimes, even text uploads fail, and I experience bad connectivity issues despite having a very strong internet connection.
I’ve looked up solutions on YouTube and other resources, but I haven’t found any relevant information to help me resolve this issue. It’s frustrating because I’ve put a lot of effort into creating projects, and I can’t share them effectively.
If anyone in the community has faced similar problems or has insights into why this might be happening and how to fix it, I’d greatly appreciate your help!
I’m having the same problem. Driving me insane. Tried everything you have and still no far forward. Any suggestions people, or any support here to help?
I’m also having this problem persistently and need a solution. Uploading files individually maxes out the upload limit too quickly, yet ChatGPT can’t read my zip files.
Well it seems that still not been fixed in this issue because if say like that you want to have a huge project or creating custom AI how will you do this if you can only use PDF files because Google document text editor and other will not work once you can only use PDF file to create a custom AI and using also project because I did all different tests and maximal limit on PDF files to place it on the custom AI the next one is 16 MB however if you do it over it said unknown corruption that will not work so have make multiple files and make same file and i found out that if try original use zip if someone else created and you put it in your custom AI it’s how difficult to understand about which one is which Plus it doesn’t also not understand that if you have an API created or have on someone else it will not also work because it does also not understand
October 26th, 2025 and the problem is still not fixed. Doesn’t matter if it’s mobile, Linux, Windows, browser, app… same results (can no longer work with compressed files). I have to update the same files multiple times, send the full code in chat dozens of times, and repeat myself endlessly. It’s highly frustrating and I’m paying for my subscription. I also couldn’t log into this site to comment with my OpenAI email login because “oops, error” so I had to create a new account with my email. It’s 2025, not the day of the first computers…. come on.
Today I face similar issue. I upload a zip file, all goes well and the agent confirms that it sees it, but when I ask it to unzip it, it says that it cannot find it. I tried all, refresh, log out/log in, different browsers, rename file, even tried .tar instead, but the same result - cannot find the file. Very frustrating as I’ve become quite dependent on the tool.
I’m seeing the exact same ZIP failure pattern described here: the ZIP uploads successfully in the UI and even appears “attached,” but when I ask ChatGPT to unzip/read the files inside, it responds as if the file doesn’t exist (cannot find/access it), while other attachments in the same chat (e.g., .csv / .ts / images) are accessible. It looks like a ZIP-specific handoff problem between the upload UI and the backend file/runtime layer. I’ve tried the usual fixes (refresh, log out/in, different browsers, renaming the archive, even .tar), and the issue persists exactly as reported in previous post. Given that file uploads are advertised as supporting common document formats, this “UI shows file but runtime can’t access it” mismatch is a serious reliability bug.
To follow up on the update, it was working yesterday temporarily fine after issues from the night before but then today the same issues persisted. It’s very frustrating to deal with this as my work entails professional website design and I pay for services with Open AI, this is preventing work for my clients. Hope it gets resolved quickly.
Edit: GPT is also having issues reading .csv files and .pdf files / .txt files (as I tried to migrate my work to go around the .zip file issue), what’s going on here?
