Issue with ChatGPT Plus - Errors Across Versions After Recent Update

A few months later, same thing happen again!

“Something went wrong. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.”

I’ve encountered some issues with ChatGPT Plus after what seems to be a recent update by OpenAI. Typically, my interactions with ChatGPT were seamless, but today’s experience has been quite different.

Background: There was an update that introduced a memory feature to learn from daily conversations, which I believe might have impacted the service.

Issues Noticed:

  • Whenever I submit a prompt, I get an error message stating, “Something went wrong. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.” This error occurs across versions 3.5, 4.0, and Dynamic.
  • Attempting to start a new session by clicking the new conversation button in the top left corner doesn’t work. Refreshing the page seems to be the only way to initiate a new session.

Interestingly, a friend of mine who is not a ChatGPT Plus user and typically uses the service without logging in doesn’t face these issues.

I hope the OpenAI team can look into these matters and ensure thorough testing before releasing new updates!

The only way I can currently receive responses from ChatGPT is by waiting for a while, then refreshing the page and clicking on the last conversation in the chat list to view the response. However, I am still unable to have real-time conversations.

This current issue is consistent with the version problems introduced by the previous update.

The corresponding respond.

Same here - it happens for team version as well.
For other account with chatgpt 3.5 only, it works all good.

It took me hours to troubleshoot with different browser/clear cookie…but non of them are actually working.

Yeah, every time we get a new update, we sometimes run into issues like this.

Seems it’s already been fixed…btw, where can we subscribe the update about the new release in the interface?

It appears that the updates for the new version of the interface are region-based. Once an area is updated, logging into ChatGPT will directly display the new interface. However, my friend in Germany mentioned that his interface is still the previous, older version.

I still cannot use chatgpt, this has been going on for days now. Is there a fix out?

It’s been a few weeks now, and I still can’t use it regularly.

After a long time, I finally made a compromise. Send a prompt, wait for a while, refresh it, and then get the response in the chat history.

The only difference is the lack of real-time feedback and the “animation” display.

It was hard to accept this way at first, but I gradually got used to it.

An error occurred while connecting to the websocket. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com. This is the message I got today from the ChatGPT. Any possible solution? Thanks

Exactly the same issue/solution for me, it would be nice to have some feedback from OpenAI

Same process . Did you get some sort of solution ?

Damn, it’s working today. No web socket connection exception! ChatGPT can give real-time replies again! But I’m not sure how long this will last. I had even started getting used to not receiving real-time replies and having to refresh the page to find ChatGPT’s responses in the chat history🤣.

An error occurred while connecting to the websocket. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.

Getting this error from the minute I resubbed to Plus. I’m… underwhelmed, to say the least. Only platform I’ve used with a generation limit, and haven’t gotten a single generation.

Edit: Apparently, it generated. But EVERY attempt is answered in a new convo. It’s bugged out like crazy.

Edit 2: It stays in one convo now, but ALWAYS gives me the error, even without Custom GPTs. If I refresh the page, SOMETIMES it has responded. About 15% success rate.

Is ChatGPT still working? Today, when I was at work, I used ChatGPT 4.0 to ask some questions, and it was functioning.

Due to data security controls in our company, we need to use a VPN and enable Chrome’s incognito mode to access it. But it still works. Currently, I am in the UK. I’m not sure if the fix time for the “An error occurred while connecting to the websocket” bug will vary by country.

Also, refreshing the page to get a reply from a previous conversation with ChatGPT works. You just have to wait a bit (probably just the time it takes for ChatGPT to think and print out the content in an animated way). After that, if you refresh the page, the reply will appear.
