I received this error, and I'm using a paid account. I have never used the API with this account before, so logically, it’s impossible for me to receive this error

If you also have never added a payment method and purchased a credit, receiving an error to check your billing details is logical.

After making a prepayment, it may take minutes or hours for the payment to unlock the organization account so fund balance showing in billing overview can be spent.

Thank you for your response. However, I have already added a payment method and have been using GPT-4 for the past two months. Despite this, it still doesn’t work. This issue has persisted since the beginning, and it has never worked for me.

I’m having the same problem, and worse it was working normally, now it gave that, I made a line of code to pull the specific logs and it’s really about that usage quota, I think we’ll have to contact OpenAI directly.

Hi! Based on your screenshot it looks like you have not added any funds/credits to your account to date.

there is $5 limit and the there is a limit of $5 and what I used is $0 so normally I can use it

What happened to him, happened to me, I’m credited with 18 dollars and none were used.

The USD 5 limit you see is just a default limit that is activated when you create an account. It does not imply that you have USD 5 available for use. As indicated in earlier posts, you have to actually add credits to your account. To do that, go to Settings > Billing and then click on the button “Add to credit balance”.

Good luck!

You are most likely referring to the initial USD 18 dollar that were granted by OpenAI to new users back in late 2022/early 2023. These credits have now expired (you should see this on your usage dashboard). In your case too, you need to add credits via your credit card to your account. Any further questions, just let us know.

I think I understood, but it turns out that in the last few months I was using normally and out of nowhere it happened. What I mean is that every new account is entitled to some credits and the older accounts they lose that right if they don’t put the recharge on even demonstrating there that they have no use of A.P.I. and this supposed credit of 5$?

The credits that were previously granted to new users by OpenAI have (had) an expiry date (I believe it was 3 months). After that they lose their validity. This is independent of whether you add new credits using your own money or not.
