I propose adding an optional, persistent reference panel alongside ChatGPT conversations.
When working on recipes, travel itineraries, project plans, shopping lists, or similar tasks, ChatGPT would maintain a structured document reflecting the current decisions made during the conversation.
As the user and ChatGPT discuss changes, corrections, or refinements, the reference document would update automatically, replacing outdated information without requiring the user to search through earlier messages.
The panel should remain independently editable, with the ability to review or reverse changes.
Example: While planning a dinner, the panel would display the current menu, ingredients, cooking temperatures, and preparation timeline. If the cooking method or serving time changes, the reference panel would reflect the revised plan immediately.
The objective is to separate ongoing discussion from the current working plan, making ChatGPT more practical for complex, evolving activities.
On tablets and computers, this could be a side-by-side interface; on phones, a readily accessible separate view.
