Error when purchasing credits by card: "too many requests, please slow down"

After 16 hours and trying again it worked.

Waited 3 days before the last attempt, and I am still getting the same exact message: Card declined, even though there is money on the card and I just paid for GPT plus.

I am seeing the same “You’re making too many requests, please slow down.” message when trying to add my CC to API Billing right now.

Welcome to the developer forum!,

For account and payment related issues please use OpenAI Help Centre in the bottom right corner is a message icon. image click the icon and enter your issue, the bot will take your details and a member of the account support team will get back to you, it may take several weeks due to the number of people currently using the system.

I’m getting this error message as well when trying to add CC to API Billing for the first time.

I am having the same issue when adding a card for the first time. Tried from different browsers and mobile, both last night and this morning.

Hi and welcome to the Developer Forum!

This seems to be a bug with the payment processing side of things, hopefully it will be corrected soon.

I was having the same issue but I was finally able to get around it.

Here’s exactly what I did:

Step 1: Logout of platform.openai.com
Step 2: Turn on VPN
Step 3: Clear browser cache and close the browser (or simply use another browser)
Step 4: Go to platform.openai.com again > Login > Billing Overview > and try to add your billing details again.

This worked for me!

Yes, same. Waiting 12h I think is the answer.

VPN solved this issue for me in chrome. Using ipvanish. Logged out, turned on vpn, logged back in and was able to add payment method and an initial credit purchase.

Don’t they want peoples money? Not working from Canada on safari, chrome or firefox. I don’t want to get a VPN just to get my credit card to work. They need to fix this ASAP!

VPN worked for me - thanks for the workaround!

Yes, I’m having the same problem. Waited a while and retried. Was using Edge and opened in Chrome with a new browser and new card and still didn’t work. I’ve messaged help, but it looks like they are busy and may take a week to respond. Is disappointing as I was looking forward to using this.

I’m having the same problem, from multiple accounts using different browsers. I have also tried over VPN, to no avail.

We actually want to give you money but cannot: this seems like it should be a priority-zero issue for any business.

Same issue here want to try this but payment method isn’t working

Same experience here. Anyone who solved this without using VPN?

Could you open developer tools and look for any errors shown there after trying?

Also could you try to open an incognito session and then try again?

If there is no error shown maybe also looking at network tab there might give some hints.

Before posting error messages here please remove any tokens in urls.

It is not that I could do anything about it, but maybe it gives a hint for someone who could.
