Days of week error on chat GPT counting

I tried using ChatGPT today, and during our conversation, I asked it to provide me with the date of last Thursday.

It gave me the wrong date—February 22 instead of February 20.

I explained that today is already Thursday, February 27, in my country’s time zone. So how could last Thursday be February 22?

However, it insisted on the same date.

I even pointed out a basic fact: a week consists of seven days. So how did it calculate last Thursday as February 22 instead of February 20?

It told me that it does not have an integrated calendar and that it relies on mental calculations to determine dates. It even interpreted the days of the week in its own way, based on its calculations.

I now find this extremely strange and very misleading, especially if the person asking relies heavily on ChatGPT for such information.

This could be a serious issue in cases where:

  • A person depends on ChatGPT as a primary source for dates and days.
  • Someone with a psychological condition, such as difficulty in recognizing dates, relies on it.
  • An individual with Alzheimer’s disease needs assistance.
  • A child is looking for information about the days of the week.

There are many scenarios where providing incorrect basic information like this could lead to serious consequences.
