Conflicting info about usage tiers (tier1)

Hi,

I am currently in tier1 and in my settings it says I have $120 usage rate for a month. But in the document (https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/rate-limits/usage-tiers?context=tier-free) it says $100 for tier1.

Hi!

You really have a good eye for these types of inconsistencies in the documentation!
I will forward this to the developer advocate for clarification.

Seems like this issue was not resolved.

I am still at tier 1, which should have a $100.00 limit. Now based on my API spending, I should be at tier 2, in which case I think my limit might be accurate (tier 1 + tier 2 monthly spending), but the UI doesn’t reflect this.

Your tier is not based on how much you “spent” in usage.
It is based on how much cold hard cash you sent OpenAI.
It is re-calculated when you pay more, purchasing credits.

Everything on that page is irrelevant to inform of past spending or additional requirements to reach the tier upgrade. The usage limit likely persists from requesting a monthly limit increase before the tier system was put in place, or you were auto-bumped back then.

So then, the issue isn’t fixed right? Or at least a subset of users don’t have their tier system working properly.

I deposited $100 in cold hard cash over 7 days ago and my Tier is still stuck at Tier 1.

If it was an initial payment, then it just sits there without being reconsidered.

If you are well beyond the 7 or 14 days for $100 or $250 respectively, you can toss another $5 to OpenAI to force recalculation.
