ChatGPT's inability to read Excel files

I’m in the exact same situation.

Having the same problem.
XLS and CSV files not recognized for over a month!
Does anyone have a successful experience with XLS analysis these days?

I’ve tried to connect with support, but there’s only an AI assistant… Is there a way to talk to a human on this?

Hey there!
Have you eventually fixed that?

I just used normal ChatGPT not the Data Analyst and it worked for me now. Read the excel spreadsheet like it did before in Data Analyst

I have been also experiencing the same issue, I did some analysis a few days ago with everything going smoothly and yestarday it seems to not be able to read xlsx or csv, this is utterly dissapointing

This issue persists—it works sometimes and fails at other times. What a disappointment! This service is utterly unreliable. ChatGPT team, we need a FIX.

Same issue, so frustrating !

Same problem here, please find a fix!!

I have found chat to be a ineffective AI tool for the simplest of tasks. Even if I provide all of the data it cannot create a spreadsheet consistently without major errors in its processing capabilities. Sorry to say that I will probably be cancelling my plus subscription and waiting for AI to become a little smarter

Is this still the same now. Aug 2025

i’m dealing with this problem too. I made a GPT and tried to upload a pretty standard Excel file. It keeps saying i didn’t upload anything, but I did. Frustrating!

I am having the same problem as well

persisting issue. Using ChatGpt 5.2 (although this topic is tagged gpt.4, this appears to be the topic where everyone posts anyway)

Using gpt  to formulate a brief issue for the chatgpt developers:

Across multiple devices/locations, ChatGPT intermittently fails to read uploaded XLSX/CSV files (sometimes even claiming no file was received) after previously analyzing the exact same file in the same conversation, and starting a brand-new chat often temporarily restores file access—strongly suggesting a conversation/session state or tool-lifecycle bug rather than a file-format issue. Please acknowledge this as a tracked bug and fix it by stabilizing file handles across a conversation (including Projects and Custom GPTs) and surfacing clear, explicit errors when a backend/tool session expires, instead of silently “forgetting” uploads or forcing unreliable workarounds like PDF exports.
