ChatGPT app stuck on logo screen on iPadOS 17 (blank white / won’t load)

Issue: ChatGPT app stuck on white screen (faded logo) on iPad Pro 10.5 (iPadOS 17.7.10).

Details: After the latest update, the app won’t load — only a white screen with a faint logo appears.

Tried: Restart, reinstall, no VPN, internet OK. Works fine on Android.

Please fix or allow older version for iPadOS 17 users.

Same problem as lekhtman2 here. Split screen didn’t work for me. Tried all troubleshooting steps and no luck. I emailed both support addresses and just got an AI response saying there isn’t any known issues, go figure

Please fix to allow IPad iOS 17.7.10

Split View allowed me to open it up…. Thanks for the workaround until OpenAI fixes it…

I have exactly the same issue. Even the version after .274 - which fixed bugs failed. I am hesitant to try the split screen as other have reported issues. I have not as a result updated my iphone 13 (ios 18.6.2) as i dont want that to fail too.

The problem with AI there does not appear to be a human to report this to.

Update: I Sent Them a Screenshot of Absolutely Nothing (And They Deserved It)

Hi everyone — quick update from the frontline.

After sending a detailed, fully documented support email to OpenAI, complete with:

:puzzle_piece: Device & OS version

:test_tube: ChatGPT app build

:wrench: Troubleshooting steps taken

:busts_in_silhouette: Community thread views & replies

:brain: Workaround info (Split View hack)

:warning: Data-loss bug warning (Voice Mode)

…I finally received a reply from Support, asking for:

:framed_picture: A screenshot of the issue

:movie_camera: A screen recording of steps to reproduce it

:stopwatch: And a 24-hour deadline before the ticket would be closed.

 Right. Because nothing conveys a catastrophic loading failure like… a still image of a white screen.

So yes — I sent them a screenshot of the white screen and named it:

chatgpt_iPadOS17_screenshot_of_absolutely_nothing.png

:light_bulb: Note: This is the same blank screen described in my original message, forum post, and literally experienced by half the users in this thread.

Also re-sent my original email because, apparently, they didn’t read it.

For context, I raised this issue a week ago.

:black_square_button: I’m still working in Split View — which is working, but dare not use voice mode.

Same problem here. If you could post the steps for getting the older version of ChatGPT onto iPad using the ipatool that would be awesome. This tool is for desktop use. Downloading the older version of ChatGPT on the desktop is just the beginning. The process for getting the downloaded .ipa file installed on iPad is not at all clear. Thank you.

macos: just airdrop the .iPA to your iPad (both must have the same iCloud account)

windows: use kawaiizenbo/AppManager

linux: ideviceinstaller (ideviceinstaller -i /path/to/ipa)

I still have the same issue. I have sent a detailed email explaining the issue is not just my ipad (the AI chat thought it was just me). I even was told that the email would be passed toa human(?) I get the impression that the various emails are not being linked so they can see it is a bigger problem that just one type/version of iPad and IOS.

Hopefully they will identify the error and resolve.

I should say that the split screen does not work on my 6th Gen IOS 17.7.10

An update of the app has come out but I am still stuck on the loading screen

It seems to be everywhere where the browser is being used or browser components.
The app on Android seems to work fine. BUT, for sure. This doesn’t help any iPadOS 17 users. It has to be fixed.

i did exactly that at first - airdrop the file onto iPad. it didn’t work. it just resulted in a file in iPad file system, not an installed app. tapping the file did nothing but bring up a screen stating it’s a file of a certain type. i searched the web for “can i just airdrop ipa file onto my ipad?” and got:

No, you cannot directly install an IPA file on an iPad by simply AirDropping it , because iPadOS does not have a built-in installer for arbitrary IPA files. While AirDrop can send the file to your iPad, it will only be saved to the Files app, and you will need a separate method like using Xcode or an Apple Configurator on a Mac to install it.”

so, i am not sure how airdrop worked for you. i guess, maybe, you already had something on your device that new how to handle the ipa file. not sure.

i used apple configurator app on the mac to install the file downloaded by the ipatool from the mac onto the ipad. apple configurator is a free utility downloadable from the mac app store. the ipad has to be connected to the mac via usb cord.

so, thank you for the ipatool command. that got me a working ChatGPT app on the ipad, albeit an older version. but it works fine. i hope my steps here help somebody.

Does anyone know how long will it take to fix the chatgpt app loading screen

Experienced the same, since same date

I’ve had the same issue. Honestly, I find that it has been performing so poorly over the last few weeks and months that I’m seriously considering just giving up my subscription and moving on to something else. This is the latest and it long string of failures of the app. It really has gone downhill a lot lately.

The latest from support email. “At this time, we recommend trying to access the service from a different network or device, or by using the web version.”.

in essence they are saying the issues we are all facing are due to our outnumber environments. They have completely ignored the fact that there are many with the same issue, all different environments, and that it still fails on mobile hotspots (at least on mine).

they do not seem to care.

Well just installed the IPad update they provided and now instead of a blank screen I get a faded logo in the center but nothing else. Split screen doesn’t work. I regret paying upfront instead of monthly now!

I tried a”different network” I’m not going to, “not use my IPad/device” because they can’t fix a bug.

The idea of telling us to try a different network or device or a web browser is simply lazy programming. Very disappointing GPT!
