ChatGPT-4: Canvas Won't Open and Unable to Read Images/Files

I’m having an issue with ChatGPT-4 and the Canvas feature. The canvas and sidebar don’t open. It seems like there might be a bug or glitch. I can log into my account just fine, but I can’t use ChatGPT-4 with Canvas. I’ve tried clearing cookies, switching browsers, logging in from different devices, and ensuring there are no VPNs or extensions active. Despite all these attempts, it still doesn’t work. I’ve also tried typing “open canvas,” but nothing happens. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

I’ve been having the same issue on and off over the last 12 hours.

I’ve tried everything, but nothing seems to work. I’m not sure if I should delete my account and create a new one, but I’m concerned that even with a new account, the issue might persist. I’m also wondering if there are usage limits on ChatGPT 4.0 with Canvas and whether it will be back up soon. I hope it will be, but since it stopped working yesterday and several hours have passed, I’m not sure what’s going on. I suspect it could be a bug with my account, since switching devices and browsers hasn’t helped.

Me,too and My GPT4o can’t read image and detect the attachment

It doesn’t read images or detect attachments, and the Canvas feature doesn’t open for me either. I’ve already reached out to OpenAI support via email at support@openai.com and also sent a message through the help page. If I hear back from them, I’ll be sure to share the solution here. I’ve also tried allowing third-party cookies, but unfortunately, that hasn’t helped.
If anyone has found a solution, it would be incredibly helpful if you could share it!

Don’t delete it. I tried making a new account and it was down for that one too.

Thanks for the advice, I was really about to create a new account—imagine paying double just to get screwed again.

openai is a victim of its success. but they’ll find a solution because competition is tough, there are lots of competitors on the market, so hopefully the wait won’t be long.

Hi there,

I wanted to share an update on my previous post, as the issue has now been resolved. After contacting OpenAI support, they suggested a few troubleshooting steps, such as clearing my browser’s cookies and cache, switching browsers or devices, and ensuring that no VPNs or browser extensions were active. They also recommended making sure my browser was up-to-date, disabling hardware acceleration, and trying to access the platform in incognito mode to rule out any conflicts with settings or extensions. Additionally, they advised checking for any network restrictions, particularly if I was on a corporate or public network. After following these steps and reaching out to support, I noticed the Canvas issue (not opening or being unable to read images/files) resolved itself. Honestly, I’m not sure if it was something specific I did, something the support team fixed, or just sheer luck, but the problem is now gone.
I hope this helps anyone else experiencing the same issue. Good luck!

I figured mine out just now for those looking for an answer: if you are on a corporate VPN, this can inhibit the functionality (though it didn’t break it before). The second I disconnected from VPN, it worked just fine.
