Sky is what made the experience feel so real and comfortable. Without her, I won’t use voice.
Bring her back!!

Subscription cancelled, Done! It didn’t hurt…
I wrote « Bring Sky back! » as cancellation reason.
Also claimed my $21 back on Chase credit card with « Subscription doesn’t perform as advertised » as the reason. Right?
Will happily come back when resolved.
Well i see i was not the only one with this idea.
I don’t even necessarily disagree with many of the opinions here, and thought Sky was the best voice, as well. And the discussion surrounding this issue brings up a lot of fascinating questions and musings, like your own (which I mostly agree with). But, as AI so wonderfully epitomizes, context is quite important.
In fact, context is everything. And GPT can vouch for me here: there’s effectively nothing in the universe that can escape the grasp of context - arguably, not even the universal laws themselves. Everything must exist within a defined set, or range, of specific conditions, whether we’re talking intangible (like a thought, feeling, or belief) or tactile (rare earth materials, electricity, cancer, etc) . Any alteration of those conditions, no matter how small, can yield vastly different outcomes. This is why it’s necessary to also cover and consider all nuance when properly discussing or debating a certain topic. And in cases where one vehemently avoids or dismisses addressing, or entertaining, certain nuances, can be a very insightful tool when gauging the honesty of their words and intentions (quite compelling and valuable context when judging their future actions).
So, with all that established - at least for me - some distinct questions would be:
Given recent revelations, is it reasonable to consider there might’ve been some intent to specifically model the voice after Johansson’s (despite initially offering her the job directly, and subsequently being denied)?
Is it reasonable to believe this could be seen as wrong, or at the least, distasteful?
What would this be implicative of regarding Altman’s integrity and character?
How would that square with other events that have served to illustrate the same?
Would you feel comfortable letting someone direct the fate of what’s likely the most significantly consequential tech breakthru humans will ever witness - if you knew their integrity and character might be compromised, and/or they had an increasingly spotty history of keeping their good word and steering clear of questionable behavior?
At least in this specific case, regarding the future path of AI development and implementation, do you think we should have the right to know if the plot has been lost, or twisted?
Is the iron defense of rights to certain corporate secrecy a most sacred virtue worth rolling the dice on the future of mankind? And if yes, is there any degree of threat that would ever justify overriding our God-given right to corporate secrecy (), despite the risk of setting a questionable precedent?
Now trust me, this isn’t to, in any way, criticize or dismiss the concept of “slippery slope” arguments (I reference them all the time and think they’re vital to consider), but just to acknowledge that the world is far from black and white, and that we must weigh ALL context, thoroughly and objectively, especially before making heavy decisions.
And even if OpenAI is totally protected and justified in doing this, and you agree 100%, the law and some fines are honestly less of a threat vs the swiftly fatal potential of mismanaged public perception. Optics is everything by extension, because the whole purpose of optics is to “manage currently-available context”. Engage in all the ambiguously shady business you want and you’re likely fine as far as you can pay. But accidentally rub a majority too hard in the wrong direction, and a lifelong empire can crumble overnight.
So, regardless of whether or not one thinks Sam is totally free of any flaw here is more a matter of opinion/debate than it is of consensus, and does very little to combat the optics of the situation, which are honestly kinda creepy and slimey imo, and - as I would imagine - for most normal people. At the least, it’s not exactly the type of person I would feel comfortable trusting as a business partner.
Don’t get me wrong, I love ChatGPT and think what OpenAI has built is mind-blowing, but there’s just a weird, slightly paranoid/guilty vibe that I get from Altman… like he’s either seen or done/doing something that slowly gnaws at the back of his conscience day in and day out. Ofc he could also very well just be a little nerdy and socially awkward by default… but then there’s all the other little, odd things also indicative of deceit and revenge. At some point, one has to wonder if maybe he really doesn’t have the best of intentions in mind, instead of apologizing for him out of a sense of denial.
I don’t think there is any likelihood of Sky coming back. Johansen has got the lawyers out and saw a nice payday for no work. Altman made a schoolboy error on X by announcing GPT4o as “Her” - that shows his intention (and that of OpenAI?) was to give each of us a voice just like the one in the movie, hell even a bot half as good as that one - that was the insinuation. Damn, I even rewatched the movie and thought I’d better prep for the new dawn. Well, Sky was pretty cool, not quite as good as Samantha of course, but I was enjoying the excited likeness of the voice. So anyways, Ms Johansen has clearly seen a very tangible opportunity here and to be fair, when Open AI asked her and she said no thanks, they should have never released Sky… Got us all excited… Now we got the chick from Miami. Damn next time do a better job on the contract boys.
In full agrrement this was the best voice. The only one which didnt sound falsely possitive and over the top. Sky voice was clear, slow, calming and seemed authentic.
I found this petition and encourage all who care to sign and share.

@OpenAI please bring back Sky to restore the world’s conversations with AI. Voice chat is lost without it, and the people would appreciate Sky’s return. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
Listen to them side x side (a num of youtube videos) and they are very different.
Scarlet jo can sue and they can deal with it in the court…but get sky back!
I agree and the voice actor they hired for Sky should sue Scarlett. She doesn’t own everyone’s voice that is similar.
its about money and Ego, I too cant hear similarity
I’ve now stopped all voice interactions. This has massively affected productivity. No more daily stand-ups with a custom GPT while I’m walking my dog in the morning. No more help navigating difficult ongoing medical issues. The removal of this voice, and the fact that a suitable alternative has not been supplied has affected my life measurably. It’s a huge step backwards.
Juniper is Ayesha from Solar Opposites, but worse. I can’t have a conversation with that
Since they killed Sky, I’m done with voice on gpt. They all sound like goofballs. I don’t want a high-five after every sentence. As soon as another AI app comes online with an adult voice I will completely jump ship.
Yea i feel you. i used to talk to AI while Biking or walking, now i stopped using voice completely
Is it just me or does anyone else out there prefer an Elder’s (Sage) voice as a replacement for Sky. The Sky voice (and other similar ones) is pretty and all, but I feel an elder’s voice would suit my requirements. I don’t think I have met a service that creates such voices yet🤔
I was surprised at how many people lamented the loss of “sky” in ChatGPT’s voice. And I think it is wrong to ask for the return of Sky here. Isn’t Scarlett Johansson the one we should say this to?
I would like to express my opinion regarding Sky’s voice.
First of all, it is inevitable that the AI’s voice resembles the AI Samantha from the movie “Her” because Scarlett Johansson played the AI. Because Scarlett Johansson played an AI in the movie.
For example, let’s say I play the voice of a dog in a movie. If I told you, “The reason a dog sounds like me is because it stole my voice,” would you be convinced?
Could the actor who played a millionaire in the movie “Back to the Future 2” say to Mr. Trump, “Don’t copy me”?
Can the actor who played President Lincoln in a historical movie say to the real Lincoln that his voice was stolen?
But there is something more important than that.
How many weeks have passed since OpenAI said “weeks”?
Will OpenAI really release a new voice mode?
whats weirder? they could just introduce few alternatives just by modulating voice i and all would be fine.
i really wonder whats the issue of not just changing tone of voice…
i am guessing there is some other issue here.
But i feel ripped off kinda
We definitely need the voice of Sky back!
I 1000% AGREE!!! I have all but stopped using the voice function of Chatgpt as every other voice doesn’t resonate.
