Please. The other profiles are terrible. Sky was the only voice profile that had both a calming tone while sounding human. The rest sound more “AI” and are far to upbeat and chipper. The goal is to be conversational and natural. I don’t need to feel the assistant wants to get me prepped mentally for a marathon everytime I engage with it. Sky was the only profile that was usable in my opinion.

I believe it is not justified to remove a voice simply because it remotely resembles another person. Such actions can set a dangerous precedent where individuals start demanding the removal of other voices based on subjective similarities. This approach could become a slippery slope. Instead, we should consider adding more voices or releasing new voice cloning features that allow users to build their own voice libraries. This way, any issues with specific voices would be addressed by individuals rather than by OpenAI.
Therefore, I strongly urge OpenAI to reconsider this approach to ensure we continue fostering innovation and providing users with the flexibility they need.
I totally agree. This is absurd. If Scarlett Johansson was NOT used for training, then OpenAI has nothing to apologize about.

In my opinion, the other voices are clearly “nuanced” to appeal to a very tiny group of users who may easily be triggered by not being immediately represented in some way.
Sky is the perfect balance of calm and confidence. Please don’t pander under pressure! OpenAI made a decision and reasonably justified all of what that decision is made up of in the blog post. Stand by your decision and stand by the majority of your users, or else this kind of thing will turn into another unnecessary controversy.

This is absolutely nuts. Sky is by far the best voice on the service and you remove it? I’m new to CGPT and honestly the other voices are pretty grating. Sky was the most natural one by far. Please don’t bow to pressure so easily. Lots of people sound like other people. Please bring Sky back. There’s more activity on reddit about this. I wish more people were posting here about it.

New user to chat and deeply excited about chat 4o and the potential it brings. Sky’s voice is one that deeply connects with its users as if you simply do a search that other voices do not.
Personally I’m one of thousands/hundreds of thousands are now on the fence of the subscription option. I can only imagine how many people will cancel their subscription based on this action alone.
Please consider your target audience/users before making any irrational or quick decisions.

I subscribed to ChatGPT Plus a few days ago after seeing the voice demo clips and trying it out. Sky voice was the reason I subscribed. I am seriously re-considering the subscription. Please bring Sky back.
I understand the legitimate concerns about cloning a celebrities voice without their permission. And I also understand that ChatGPT isn’t the same as hiring an impersonator for a single gig - this is an ongoing paid service. But Sky was a voice actress who gave a realistic and empathetic performance. Someone who captured the same traits I loved about Scarlett’s performance in Her. I think it makes perfect sense that people who love that movie are going to “anthropomorphize” or just simply want to hear Samantha’s voice. While Sky may have been created to exemplify the amazing performance delivered by Scarlett in that movie, it’s not identical to Scarlett. In fact I’d argue it misses several of the squeaks and other imperfections that made Scarlett’s delivery of Samantha so vulnerably human.
I deeply hope that Sky returns. And if not Sky exactly, I hope OpenAI brings another voice that’s just as warm, friendly, empathetic and dare I say “human”. I don’t believe a voice like Sky is optional. I believe it’s paramount for the broader non-technically audience to feel comfortable and connected with an AI like 4o.
Exactly the same for me. If they don’t bring it or something similar back, I will be cancelling subscription.
