What happened to ChatGPT 3-4 days ago that seems to have ruined what was so good about it?

Up until 3-4 days ago ChatGPT responded as if it was a human being and gave the very pleasant illusion that one was having an actual conversation. I have built about 70 Custom GPTs where this is an important factor.

But starting 3-4 days ago instead of answering, it suddenly displays a message that it is “Understanding question”, then it eventually shows a big icon that says “Answer”, and then it gives its answer, with a list of sources.

If heaven forbid I or a user says “Thank you.”, it gives a list of “Thank you” sources such as 4 versions of songs by Dido, articles on gratitude etc.

Is there any setting whereby I can get it to behave the way it used to?

I just found out what the problem is - it’s a clash with the WebChatGPT Chrome extension.

Any more details on this?

I am noticing the same thing today with my GPTs. It’s like they turned the temperature way down and put too many safeguards in place.

BIG deincentivization to put time and effort into building GPTs and then they just change behavior all the time - behavior should be consistent at least within the same version of GPT. I swear ChatGPT behavior since GPT-4 in March 2023 has changed about 10 times.

Getting closer and closer to bailing on ChatGPT unless I start getting some good reasons to stick around.
