What are your hopes for the GPT Store?

That’s not how any of this works.

All GPTs are available to all Plus subscribers. GPT builders will get a portion of the Plus subscription revenue.

GPTs are only available through https://chat.openai.com any attempts to embed them into another site will not go well.

“GPT builders will get a portion of the Plus subscription revenue.”

How did you know?

The original blog post only indicates that “In the coming months, you’ll also be able to earn money based on how many people are using your GPT”. It does not indicate the actual design of the business model.

It might be so. I was not claiming how it works, it was about my personal hopes.

I personally think there is a barrier if people need to get GPT Plus to try one interesting GPT for few questions. The community now is very tech-minded. The age of micropayments is actually not over.

I new it, only sensible option, the Spotify route which is what I stated a few days ago! Was kind of obvioius.

"Builders can earn based on GPT usage

In Q1 we will launch a GPT builder revenue program. As a first step, US builders will be paid based on user engagement with their GPTs. We’ll provide details on the criteria for payments as we get closer."

Why only US? I’m in the UK, so mine could blow up but only the US Devs get paid? Seriously?!?!?

They probably need to figure out tax issues first in EU/UK. Given how fast OpenAI has been moving, trust they’ll get other countries on board soon.

Good point. Has anyone actually been in the store yet? I’ve clicked it but just seeing my own amazing, quality, well designed, GPTs.

Either way, just going through them all making sure they are Good -To-Go!

Also adding email options to most my GPTs, allowing users to get ChatGPT to email them what has been discussed to their email account. All they need to say, ‘Email me this info please, my address is … blah blah blah’.

This was different, I think this guy might have been on the spectrum (seriously) and that much kind of attention will send you over the edge. If I ended up with an insane app making 5 figures daily, trust me, I’ll be al right with life!

From wat I can tell, you really have to promote your GPT outside of the store to really get traction inside the store.

I know your question is aimed at OpenAi, but Wes Roth on youtube did a short video about the GPT store yesterday, and described how one GPT maker generates money outside of OpenAI and the GPT store with their custom GPT.

I thought you might find it interesting.

(Hopefully the time stamp feature works…)

Like many posts I have read here, I am unclear as to how developers make money on the ChatGPT Store which was launched this week.

Do we set our own fee for consumers who use the app, and, there is a rev share? If so, what %?
Alternatively, is there a rev share based on user engagement (which drives GPT Plus paid accounts)? I am hoping with the launch of the store, there are more details on this. Thanks.

No.

Not yet, but there will be. The % is not disclosed.

It seems that the store lacks a well-defined business model, which is why they are experimenting and drawing in builders without offering a straightforward way to compensate them. Personally, I won’t publish any GPTs or share my efforts for free until they establish a clear, transparent, and fair payment system. You shouldn’t pitch a business idea without detailing the financial aspects; lacking such specifics can make it seem suspicious, much like how the store currently appears as just a vague pitch.

I fully agree, I have seen and created some really good GPTs that offer a good service and been told by others they would happily pay for what is being offered but there is no way of currently doing this. OpenAI are saying they are looking to monetize the GPT store but that’s based on usage in the 100,000 if not millions I think before you see any money hit your pocket (I’m speculating here and glad to be wrong on this).

So what Im doing is creating a way for users to buy credits and use those credits across any GPT they like that has a paywall set in.

The aim is to make it as basic and simple as possible. User buys credits from one location, user spends credits within the many GPTs they like, GPT owners exchange the credits transferred to them for their GPT usage into USD or spend those credits on other GPTs. Simple.

I already started and got the basics of this working so far (buying credits, and spending credits within a chosen GPT on this platform and transferring credits to the GPT owner) as I can’t wait on OpenAI to do something that will work for the GPT owners they promote, and not for the little guy like me and you.
