hm, curious, I’ve seen rumors that it’ll release on the 24th… I wonder if it is a bet worth taking… considering @sama said a few weeks, it might be an over estimation on his end since they over promissed, but it might also be a fake news (not by sama, but by those with stake on the betting websites) to manipulate the betting market… hm, interesting
@anon25271712 Heard the rumor too. Checked my phone this morning, then realized I’m in Europe :)) Can’t wait to try it out, but I won’t be surprised if it’s not true.
welp, it is true… I should’ve placed a bet based on the rumors hahah, I’m not into betting so there’s that… oh, and I heard it’ll take a few more days to reach europe and some parts of asia, hopefully the EU gets it soon
Sounds good. Let’s hope!
Hello everyone,
Today, I finally got access to the Advanced Voice Mode. Thank you, OpenAI!
The conversation feels very natural, and the Japanese pronunciation has improved a lot compared to before. However, there are still quite a few mistakes when reading kanji, which is a bit unavoidable for now.
Additionally, it seems there’s a limit on the voice feature’s usage time per day, so if you use it too much, it reverts back to the previous voice mode.
How about you? Have any of you tried it yet?
So you finally got some rest at night, huh? I’m still waiting. I just hope I won’t get banned before I can try it out
So I’ve just read an OpenAI post on Facebook and they say EU is out of the game. I guess it’s the stupid EU regulations.
To OpenAI: I think we deserve an explanation of why Advanced Voice will not be available “the EU, the UK, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein”. And a timeline for if/when this feature will be available.
It’s hardly fair that we shall pay the same as “the rest of the world”, and if this feature is not coming then why should I place my bets on OpenAI for the future? This hurts my business!
I think you should ask this question to the stupid EU leaders (with Ursula at the forefront). It’s not OpenAI’s fault that the EU politicians are insane.
So what is the advantages of all the disadvantages of Brexit if the UK is still bundled in with the EU? Surely there has to be one, just one, benefit for the UK.
this anti EU aura rubs me in all the wrong places…
I mean, please do voice all the criticism you feel, but can you at least try to put some more weight behind it instead of just ranting that you have to wait a bit longer for new features to roll out?
let me try to get this ratioed, please…
a lack of structure leaves too many gaps for abuse, especially when it comes to privacy, bias, and accountability
I think OpenAI is handling things well, and even if they are a big fish, there are also other fish in the pond, and these rules apply to the entire school of fish
(including this one
)
the EU might be more bureaucratic, but in the AI act, they focus on safety, ethics, and human rights - it’s obviously not perfect, but it’s also not a bad thing. please go ahead and take a look:
https://artificialintelligenceact.eu/high-level-summary/
this makes new features roll out slower, but it also puts up guardrails to keep worst case scenarios in check, like, law enforcement or healthcare systems… those need hardcore regulation, and the EU gets that we can’t just leave it up to companies to self-regulate when the stakes are this high
still, I’d love to see some middle ground where innovation doesn’t get suffocated by red tape but we’re not speeding ahead without thinking about what could go wrong, and if the EU can stay flexible, keep up with the tech, and adjust their way, it just makes the most sense long-term
the technology has to benefit everyone, all human beings, and eventually it also has to become inclusive for articial beings as well
so… what do you want?
fool’s freedom, potentially leading to social credit score monitoring, or lobotomised AGI systems keeping you from accessing health care or getting a loan so you can afford a place to live?
or something that evolves in a controlled manner, with humanities best interest in mind, with who or “what” we eventually can stand shoulder to shoulder as brothers and sisters?
I don’t want to live in a cyberpunk dystopia, because some tech bros couldn’t wait for their AI girlfriend voice to ship sooner if you catch my vibe… good things come to those who wait
I’m based in New Zealand and this morning, I uninstalled and reinstalled the iPhone app to get access to the advanced voice mode. My initial thoughts:
- The best feature by far is the ability to naturally interrupt the conversation by speaking, which feels intuitive.
- However, the inability to use text input or upload documents for additional context limits its usefulness at this stage. It’s great for role-playing exercises and covering more ground in conversations, but that’s about the extent of its utility for now.
- I quickly hit my usage limit for the advanced voice feature, which switches you back to the standard voice mode.
- A big issue with the standard mode is that you can’t seem to pause or interrupt the AI while it’s speaking. The only way to stop it is to end the conversation, which takes you back to text input. This becomes a real drawback when the AI goes into too much detail—you’re stuck waiting until it finishes.
OpenAI dev team, if you’re reading this, PLEASE fix the issue of not being able to interrupt GPT mid-conversation ASAP!
Would love to see improvements on this!
I am reminding everyone that construictive critism is welcome, but personal attacks are not.
Since when is calling someone naive a personal attack? It’s more constructive than the lenghty glorification of a corrupt system.
Critisise the points raised, not the person raising them.
I suspect that too, but we don’t know that for sure as long as we don’t get any information from OpenAI. And what they can do to address that. Good luck to anyone trying to complain to the EU bureau-crazy…
That’s a very succinct description of how I experience this situation - I couldn’t have said it better myself. I just wish that OpenAI could have done what Meta (among others) did, come out an say that is was because of EU regulations they were holding back. And if/when I could be expected to compete on a level field.
Sure, most of the the EU regulations are beneficial to the consumers, but boy when they get it wrong they get it wrong.
Time to get VPN and a US address
I wish these AVM threads would be cross linked I’m forgetting which are which
Sorry got sucked into this chat because of the AVM which I’m following 6 I think right now. I’m sorry for the predicament you are all in our brothers and sisters cross the pound. I don’t know much about the EU AI Act other than the basics. I don’t understand how they will class AI TBH. This will need to be addressed though world wide soon.
you can try gptcall meanwhile works in EU and other countries, and it’s free
