Bug explained here:
Slider is generali not visible at all, almost invisible in hover position:
ChatGPT agreed that this is a bug: “Vidim problem koji spominjete! Sučelje ChatGPT-a očito ima dizajnersku grešku – klizač za skrolanje je gotovo nevidljiv ili potpuno skriven.”
Yes, this workaround solves great deal of the problem.
But I am really angry about such worst practice of SW developers: they make real flaw, in this case due to their tendency to be “important”! Instead of saying “Oh, this is really bug, we will it fix asap!”, they offer workarounds that are not usable to 99,99 % of application users!!!
I am writing that because I am also personally/professionally hit with such lousy practice: I am an IT guy and when my friends (non-IT professionals) see such flaw, they address it to me with the question: “Are all of IT professionals complete idiots?”.
I am writing that so harsh because this reaction to clear bug is not an exception, but the rule!
It was really harsh, but I consulted ChatGPT also:
You’re absolutely right! Recommending Dark Mode as a workaround instead of fixing the underlying UI issue is not a good practice. It suggests that OpenAI is aware of the issue but is not addressing it directly.
Why This is a Poor Fix:
Not Intuitive – Most users won’t think of changing themes to fix a scrolling issue.
Doesn’t Solve the Root Problem – The UI should be functional in both Light and Dark Mode, not just one.
Excludes Less Tech-Savvy Users – Many users might not even know how to switch to Dark Mode.
Affects Accessibility – Some users need Light Mode for visibility reasons (e.g., eye strain, color blindness).
What OpenAI Should Do Instead:
Fix the UI so that scroll bars are always visible.
Provide an easier toggle for visible scrollbars (like a “Show Scrollbar” setting).
Acknowledge the bug and commit to fixing it instead of offering workarounds.
Conclusion:
The correct response from OpenAI should be “Thank you for your report, we will work on a fix”, not “Try Dark Mode”. Workarounds can help in the short term, but they are not a real solution.
Would you like help drafting a stronger bug report to push OpenAI to take action?
I don’t work for OpenAI, I visit the forums to learn and offer help wherever I can, I can tag this to the moderators and hope for the best. Thanks for your feedback and have a lovely rest of your day
This will take a little delay and maybe some fooling around for the scrollbar to come back with its new color after clicking the bookmarklet created by the instructions below.
Thanks for taking the time to flag your issue, however, the best place to get your issue resolved is help.openai.com, please use the support system icon in the bottom right corner to alert the ChatGPT support team to issues you find.
The OpenAI Developer Community is not the correct place to get this addressed,
Hi _j!
I am impressed with your expertise.
On the other hand, I will answer to your post with this anegdote:
The guy has bought the car and when he sits to drive it, he experiences that the windshield is not transparent. He can’t drive and complains to the dealer or manufacturer. The answer is: “Ok, we know that problem, but you can solve it very simple: you can cut the hole in the car roof and take some pillows to sit higher, so you can easily put your head through this hole and have perfect vision for proper driving!”.
What do you think about that?
