Vector store file creation is taking a long time (status="in_progress) for 100KB size

Hi OpenAI Developer Community,

I am facing a long wait to create a vector store file for 100KB files. I can see the file upload in the Storage with the right size.

When I retrieve vector store file (get https://api.openai.com/v1/vector_stores/{vector_store_id}/files/{file_id}) the status is staying in_progress for a long long time for a small 100KB file.

Is this normal?

We have the same problem, files stuck in_progress status for a long time.

Yep, vector store processing has been abysmal all week (15-20 minutes for smaller pdf with images), but now it is taking over an hour for a sub single MB file with zero images. But of course status.openai.com says everything is running smoothly. For an AI company, they might want to get a bot to run them some metrics and update those stats…unless it’s failing too?

It is better now, but I am still getting some slowness from time to time.
