Vector in Assistant API started indexing since morning

Hey all,

I’ve run into something weird with the Assistants API vector store feature and wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this. Since morning, whenever I create a new vector store and add even just one small JSON file, it gets stuck on:

This is happening across all my assistants, not just one. Even when I:

  • Create a brand new assistant,

  • Create a brand new vector store,

  • Upload a single, simple file…

…it still shows “Indexing” and never seems to complete.

Is this a bug, a backend delay, or something I’m doing wrong? It used to work fine before. Would really appreciate any ideas or confirmation if others are seeing the same issue.

Hey, yeah we’re experiencing this issue, had several customers fill in our help form in production app unable to add files to vector stores!

File gets uploaded, Vector store created, but failing to link

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE FROM OPENAI FIX ASAP!

Same issue, it has been going on for 8 hours now.

Just checked my logs, yes this ties in with our first logged issue, how frustrating!

This is the worst part! There’s numerous threads on this now, we need confirmation they have visibility on this and working on…

The issues with the vector stores have been reported to staff and I hope this gets resolved very soon!

Perhaps this should become a separate thread, but the lack of acknowledgement on status page makes me question an earlier assumption on my part. We know that the Assistant API will be sunset. I’ve already migrated from it and chat completions to the Responses API. But it seemed to me that Storage and File Search would remain core to the offering… :thinking:

I’m still experiencing it, both programmatically and in the Dashboard. Perhaps the team is preoccupied with the Live Streaming event today. I’ll sure be glad to get this issue resolved or at least some acknowledgement from the great team at OpenAI.

I keep on refreshing the status page in hopes that this is now being taken cared of. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Working again for me. Maybe they used GPT-5 to refactor and fix the issue.

Just tested and still doesn’t appear to be working.

OMG - Finally got everything ready and signed off and about to do final testing ANNNNND i cant upload the up to date vector files…
