Unable to generate response, API returns quota error

When the API reaches the hard limit set in the account, it returns a Quota error.

You’ve reached your usage limit. See your usage dashboard and billing settings for more details. If you have further questions, please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.

This is a feature, not a bug.

The issue arises when you attempt to resolve this by increasing the quota, as the API keys don’t begin to function immediately.

A temporary solution is to create a new API key, which will start working instantly.

I hope OpenAI addresses this issue, as it can cause significant downtime in production applications.

Just FYI, likely related, API keys also aren’t immediately invalidated. (At least they weren’t a few months back.)
