Timestamps for chats in ChatGPT

It would be fine to have timestamp displayed for every piece of conversation! It would be useful for searching stored conversations, but also for the evidence when the discussion took place.

Yes, could help a lot in sorting and hovering to a particular time or day

Yes, it’d be very helpful. I’m perplexed why it doesn’t include a timestamp in the first place. Seems like such a basic request. Heck, even my iPhone generates a timestamp for every text message I send and receive. It’s a no-brainer.

Can we get timestamps for chats generated in ChatGPT? I understand it currently categorizes chats into day, week, months etc. but can we get actual time-of-day stamps for each message? E.g 1:20pm, 5:00am, 3:34am, etc. MM/DD/YYYY HR:MIN:SECS

Further agree. Particularly for documentation of prior conversations.

I have a scenario where:

  • Several months ago I had several chat instances in Chat GPT on a similar topic (refactoring an old Node.js application)

  • Now I have come back to the task of refactoring the application and I am not able to see which chat had the most recent discussion

I have renamed the related chats (which changes the order they are displayed in the chat history menu) with a suffix of something like ‘APP_REFACTOR’ so that I can see which chats are related (pity there is no chat categorising or tagging mechanism), but I still can’t see which chat is more recent because there are no timestamps on the messages.

This is why I am adding the feature request that timestamps be added to the messages displayed in ChatGPT.

Thank You.

PS I asked a GPT-4 instance if timestamps were saved in the chat messages themselves and apparently they are, they are just not displayed in the Chat GPT interface.

I agree timestamps would be great. Also I should be allowed to reply to my own messages (not just the agent’s).

Also GPT’s short term perception of time seems to be highly prone to hallucination.

I would love to see time stamps added.

・Clarification of context:
Clarifies at what point in time a statement is made, making it easier to understand the flow and context of the conversation, especially in longer conversations.
・Organization of information:
When users look back on past conversations, timestamps make it easier to organize information and track what was said and when.
・History Management:
When browsing chat history, users can easily locate conversations that took place at specific times, allowing them to find information efficiently.
・Project Management:
In task progress and project discussions, timestamps make it easier to keep track of the timing of each step or decision.

Agree! It’s very neccesary to add a timestamp mark beside every meesage. Also a last timestamp on every chat in the main list. And , as said, renaming a conversation is not a real change to move it to the top of the list.

Very needed a timestamp, both in the list of conversations, as in every message within the chats

Yes, i just needed it and didn’t find it.

Wow, this is the first time that MY ISSUE is actually active! For real, almost always, whenever I have an issue that I can research online, the chats are locked/closed. Anyhow, I TOO just needed to know the date and/or time of my chats, to display them in chronological order with accurate labels. But I couldn’t do it.

Yes, I agree, a time-stamp for each new message would be very useful if for nothing other than personal accountability and time management.

I do a lot of long conversational chats which may have a tangential change of follow before returning to the main chat. I would like to be able track when that occurred.

I also.can have a chat that flows over days and having a combination of time and date would be great.

Not sure this possible but even a call out to the current chat session device to source time and date would be great

Now I am probably showing my ignorance as I’m an old techie guy and used to make api calls for such functionality.

Came here to post this, good job! Literally needed the timestamp feature this morning to track where I was up to.

If I implement a code modification from GPT that I find doesnt work, and I want to revert to before ChatGPT suggested X, it would be EXTREMELY HELPFUL if each of the chats in the website interface had a timestamp you could check to know exactly when to revert to in your code. I feel like this is a very straightforward change that should be added ASAP.

I can’t tell you how many times im like “Ok I don’t like how these set of changes GPT recommended implemented, let me revert to before that specifically” but couldn’t find a timestamp for the chats I wanted to revert before, so I had to guess exactly where to revert to.

This is of course just one of the benefits. There are others such as “I need to find when I was talking about ‘X’ on tuesday” and having timestamps would allow me to determine if the chat im querying is before or after that time period, etc.

My feature request is simple: display the time a message was sent at, to make things easier you could also only display the timestamp of user messages since the AI’s own messages always come immediately afterwards.

A situation where this would prove useful:
Yesterday I was trying to get ChatGPT to analyze a particular 3DSMax import script and have it attempt to make a blender addon from it.
But I had already done a couple of analysis’s that day and thus it quickly hit the daily limit when I did that.
However I no longer remember what time it was when that happened so I can no longer see when the limit is reset.

Of course adding the ability to check ;if I can analyze stuff again and if not how long I have to wait; would be a more direct solution to this particular problem, but I think Message Timestamps would be super helpful for this situation and many other situations

I think it would be really cool to add timestamps for every message you send in ChatGPT. Knowing a timeline of events (i.e. date + time) pertaining to when I asked a question and when I received a response would help me find old information in an easier manner.

Here’s to that! I really hope that becomes a feature !!! chatgpt-app ChatGPT Feature requests

This would be very usefull for versioning a code, if there are multiple versions generated by the chatgpt as well.
