My hot take on it is that this was really needed, we need a better operational system for mobile devices and computers, hopefully they go hard on the “Her” movie OS idea.

Not sure if they’ll go super hard as in starting from scratch, it would eliminate the vulnerabilities of an underlying OS, or if they’ll go with the steam deck route and just fork arch… if they’d have to use an OS I’d either go with linux from scratch, qubeos or hardenedBSD

but super fucking cool idea, I bet a lot of openai and loveform employees are going to have a lot of fun building the future, and yeah, its going to be stressful, with possible delays to lunch in 2027 after promising 2026, but hey, look at gta 6, it took a decade to lunch something ground breaking

they’ll probably have to do a model shift as well, similar how davinci-003 got the chatcompletions, they’ll probably need a paradigm shift, but man, if they get it right.. it’ll probably be what makes oai profitable and ends apple, google and microsoft in one hot take… it just really depends how ambitious they’ll be about it all.

super cool, can’t wait

(btw, super jealous, i wanna be sam’s friend too)

I felt like the waiter trying to drop off the $10 decaf latte they ordered, and got roped into hearing how awesome they are for 10 minutes.

Did you know that Frank here made the iPhone?
“Haha, great, here’s your latte sir”
Hahaha. Did you know that George here has the greatest responsibility on his shoulders?
“Sir I need to work”
Hahahahaha. Well Frank here has fantastic design choices
“pls stop”

I’m excited to see what comes from this though. io has got to be the worst name possible.

AR Glasses maybe?

What is LoveForm? Can you explain please?

It’s everything built from nothing; stone built from water. It’s a high “ayo” to a low “ayno”. It’s what AI could make, but we’re spending billions of dollars because ai couldn’t make it

I’m sorry, I don’t get what is happening. LoveForm is a name of the company? Sorry, English is not my native, it’s a bit hard to understand what is really happening. I’ve caught what is essential for me, Sam said he is kinds “For creativity and freedom no matter how strange the idea is” - did he mean a new AI which will be so creative, or what?

It’s equally confusing for English speakers. There’s nothing material in the announcement.

Loveform is a company. That’s about it.

The implication is that OpenAI is about to create some revolutionary “iPhone-like” technology because of the collaboration. May be true. Big if.

So, no promise of freedom? Oh. OK, thanks for the explanation!

Went to website, see some flying letters + a bear walk onto screen from RHS. A few mins of this I still don’t know what is the it is. In fairness I didn’t listen to video, I’m much better at browsing docs.

I don’t understand that kind of valuation. What’s concrete and actually worth 6.4B?

I remember the dotcom years some guys landed $300 million for auction software (3-4K lines of C code to read + write flat files). Nice return for a weeks work.

Same. And I tried clicking everywhere in the website to see if there was some not obvious link to a showcase or portfolio, lol.

(or the prototype Altman mentioned)

OpenAI announced on May 21, 2025 that it would acquire io Products, the hardware startup launched by former Apple design chief Jony Ive in 2024, in an all-equity transaction valued at approximately $6.5 billion. According to Reuters, this deal brings the 55-member io team into OpenAI as they develop a new family of AI hardware, and design responsibilities will report to Ive—who will join as creative head—while maintaining the general terms of an all-stock deal based on OpenAI’s $300 billion valuation [1].

Crucially, LoveFrom—Jony Ive’s independent design collective founded in 2019—was not purchased as part of this acquisition. As OpenAI’s own announcement and subsequent reporting in The Verge make clear, LoveFrom will continue to operate autonomously, deepening its collaboration by assuming creative duties across OpenAI’s products without merging into OpenAI’s corporate structure [2][3].
