Request for Official Arch Linux Support for ChatGPT Desktop App

Dear OpenAI Team,

I am writing to formally request official support for Arch Linux in the ChatGPT desktop application.

I am a ChatGPT user on CachyOS (an Arch-based distribution) and have been relying on community-built packages like chatgpt-desktop-bin from the Arch User Repository (AUR). However, these unofficial builds are often missing critical features, such as:

  • Chat history management (delete options in the sidebar)

  • Data Controls in Settings

  • Full feature parity with the macOS and Windows versions

Why Arch Linux support matters:

  • Arch Linux and its derivatives (like CachyOS, EndeavourOS, Manjaro) have a massive and growing user base among developers, power users, and AI enthusiasts.

  • These are exactly the users who would benefit most from features like Codex integration, local file access, and deep desktop integration.

  • According to multiple reports, OpenAI’s own Linux sign-up form already includes Arch Linux as a distribution option, which shows the company is aware of the demand.

  • Competitors like Anthropic have already released official Linux beta apps. Supporting Arch Linux would help OpenAI remain competitive in the developer community.

My specific request:

  1. Provide an official, native ChatGPT desktop client for Arch Linux.

  2. Distribute it via official channels (e.g., pacman packages, Flatpak, or AppImage) to ensure reliability and feature completeness.

  3. Ensure full feature parity with macOS and Windows versions, including chat history management, data controls, and system tray integration.

Linux users pay the same subscription price as macOS and Windows users but currently receive fewer desktop features. An official Arch Linux build would show that OpenAI takes the open-source developer community seriously.

Thank you for considering this request. I look forward to seeing official Arch Linux support in the future.

Sincerely,
Arch Linux / CachyOS user
