Let’s just say OpenAI has been having some…trouble making easy-to-find official announcements for things.

According to other plugin developers, they received an email directly telling them to migrate their plugins into a custom GPT. This info is also found scattered around other docs and blurbs when they discuss GPTs.

Are Custom GPTs replacing Plugins?

Hi there, it seems pretty obvious by now that Custom GPTs will replace plugins. They pretty much allow for everything you could do via plugins (via actions), plus allow you to provide more context, connect things with browsing the web, set conversation status. Plus they are much more discoverable than plugins. Last but not least, I think Custom GPTs provide a much better experience over plugins, given that enabling and disabling plugins inside your conversation all the time felt really cumbers…
