For context, I’m a ChatGPT Plus subscriber and I use Legacy Saved Memories, not the newer Improved Memory system.
Since I started using ChatGPT, I have regularly made backups of my saved memories. My backup method is very simple: I open the Saved Memories interface, copy all memory entries shown there, and paste them into a plain-text .txt file.
In my case, when the resulting backup reaches approximately 73–74 KB, ChatGPT shows the memory full warning and I can no longer continue adding memories without deleting or shortening existing ones.
I have been making these backups regularly since I started using ChatGPT, so I am confident that this is a reproducible limit for my account.
To be precise, I am not claiming that 73–74 KB is necessarily the internal storage limit used by ChatGPT. This number is the size of the plain-text backup obtained by copying all entries from the Saved Memories interface.
Unfortunately, this capacity is too small for my use case. I use saved memories for many precise long-term facts, preferences, and instructions, and over time they accumulate.
I intentionally continue using Legacy Saved Memories because I prefer explicit, individually stored and manually manageable memory entries. The newer Improved Memory system is currently not suitable for my use case: in my experience it is less reliable for preserving precise details and has had various issues.
I would therefore really like OpenAI to significantly increase the storage capacity of Legacy Saved Memories.
I would also appreciate it if Legacy Saved Memories remained available for users who specifically prefer explicit, manually managed memories instead of automatically summarized memory.
