Dear OpenAI Team,
I am writing to request a change to ChatGPT’s memory system, particularly the way memory limits can interfere with ongoing conversations.
I enjoy using ChatGPT for long-running conversations, creative projects, planning, and discussions that build on previous context. However, running into memory limitations can be frustrating, especially when I want to continue talking without having to stop, manage stored information, or lose useful context.
I understand that memory and storage have technical limitations. However, I believe users should have more flexibility in how these limits work.
I would like to suggest the following improvements:
-
Remove restrictive memory limits where technically possible, so users can maintain useful context for longer.
-
Increase memory capacity, allowing more information to be retained without constantly running into limitations.
-
Separate memory capacity from the ability to continue chatting, so reaching a memory limit does not prevent users from continuing their conversations.
-
Give users greater control over memory, including clearer explanations of what is full and what options are available.
My main concern is that a feature designed to make ChatGPT more helpful should not become an obstacle to having conversations. Users should be able to continue chatting even if the system cannot save any additional memories.
I appreciate the work that goes into developing ChatGPT, and I hope you will consider this feedback when improving the memory experience.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
A ChatGPT user
