I mean for prototyping purpose is there any embed or generate APIs (for any models) provide free usage amount?
when I look to the usage tap in my account I see something expired and I don’t understand what it is.
Welcome to the forum!
When you first get an OpenAI account, you receive $5 in free tokens that will expire three months after creation. After that time, you will need to add a payment method to your account on the OpenAI Platform.
There are a lot of open source LLM’s like LLama 2 that can be used for your purposes, though they would be for API like usage. I don’t recall one currently for embedding like usage
those 5$ I can spent on any any api endpoints for any embed or generate model and when the 5$ end then all openai’s endpoints for all openai’s model will cost money, right?
Yes, API money granted to you could be used on any API product you’d wish to evaluate, even image generation.
The per-use-fees for embeddings are extremely low, so even if you’ve exhausted your trial grant, we’re talking fractions of a penny for further evaluation - and by then you’ve probably found good applications for the utility of the services.
You won’t find free in this world if you consider all costs: even though there are small versions of free and open source language models you can use on your own hardware, that also pulls electricity out of your wall socket to power the $1000 video card you were tempted to buy, and takes time out of your day that could be your earning or recreation time.
calm down brother, I’m just inquiring if there are free usage amounts I can use.
Correct, with the exception of the Dall-E API, for that you need to buy credits.
Correct, with the exception of the Dall-E API, for that you need to review the API pricing.
Scroll down to “image models”.
At labs.openai.com you get a better quality AI image maker, but with prepaid credits closer to $0.13 per image instead of $0.02 per large API image.
That is correct. (Except Dall-E, which costs money from the start.)
