O1 Pro Mode: Family Sharing

Is it possible to share the O1 Pro mode with my family—my wife and kids—using the same account on three different devices?

I wouldn’t recommend sharing a ChatGPT Pro account with family members. While you might not get caught if you’re careful, it’s probably not worth the risk. They may have ways of detecting and preventing simultaneous usage from different locations, especially since it’s an unlimited $200 service.

There is a compute throttle per user, meaning that if a query takes normally 1 minute and you use 3 simultanious queries, it will take three minutes.
Above 3 simultanious connections if they are happening from different device id’s they can block your account and credit card from using chatgpt subscriptions anymore.(you would not be able to use your credit card anymore for a paying subscription). It doesn’t happen automaticly, it just raises alarms, and a human staff from openai verifies if there was fraud or not.

The pro (unlimited) version is heavly secured against misuse, otherwise it would impact the other users. There is no problem having 2 or 3 simultanious chats from the same deviceid (it’s impossible for you use “mentions” or you run a 4o query at the same time as a o1 pro query which is still in progress on the same device.)

For voice mode it would be easily protected by only allowing one device at a time to respond. If it is launched from another device it could automaticly stop the voice on the other device. We live in a multi device world, so it is normal that I would use the voice mode from my browser and then an hour later on my phone during my car ride, but it would not be normal to use both at the same time.

If you don’t want to get banned from using chatgpt, don’t do it

Your browser and mobile apps have a unique deviceid, so even if your family is on the same adress, openai would notice the simultaneous usage and ban you from all their subscriptions by blocking your account and payment method like creditcard. You would need to recreate another account(loose existing chats and bots) and need another creditcard each time.

Not worth the risk

For the non-unlimited subscriptions you can potentially share your account but will be limited to the caps of 40 messages per 3 hours, which will be hit really fast if you are two or more users. Especilly knowing that each chatgpt voice response also cost you one message.

But if everyone trusts each other, just using VNC to use a single desktop PC to do the work? Or am i going to be flagged now for stating the obvious?
