I opened up a chat that I had used about a month ago to create an Excel macro. I wanted to make a couple of modifications to that macro. But after reopening that chat, everything I enter gets a “Model not found” error.
I faced the same issue: in every project when I enter a new prompt ChatGPT opens it in a new window and returns “Model not found“. Outside of Projects everything works well.
Dax from OpenAI Support. We are aware of an issue with custom GPTs whereby “Model not found” errors are occurring when trying to create/chat with a custom GPT. I don’t have an ETA at this moment but our engineering team is working on a fix. Thanks for flagging and we appreciate your patience!
Same issue here - my custom model was working fine yesterday but this morning I’m getting consistent “model not found” errors whenever I try to run a prompt.
Same error is seen when using the android app for existing project chats.
Logging out & in did not help. Neither did clearing the app cache.
I reinstalled the app yesterday and created a new project, which worked ok. But returning to the chat this morning, the “Model not found” error reappears.
Web browser chat permits continuation of the chats in all projects, so (mine) seems to be a problem on the app side.
This should be resolved now, thank you for all your patience. Can you confirm how things look on your end? If you're still seeing the error, would you mind also trying on an Incognito browser just to make sure caching/cookies aren't playing a role?
Hope all is well, but here to help if not!
And as a helpful callout from @Jay_Godfrey, make sure your model is set to ChatGPT 5 instead of just “ChatGPT”. This may be a bug on our end (the model should never be just “ChatGPT”), but manually switching to ChatGPT 5 should do the trick for now.
Now the the text message “something seems to have gone wrong” has replaced the “Model not found” message in all projects chats, and while the project files are visible but not accessible, the general chats outside the project are missing from the android app, while they are correctly displayed on the web
Thank you for sharing! I believe this should be fixed as well. Android users who see this screen on versions between 126 and 203 may need to log out and log back in to recover their apps. This should be fixed in all new Android versions that are version 203 or higher, which should have been released around July 28, 2025.
Let me know if logging out/back in or updating your app works for you.
I am in ChatGPT five and a custom GPT, but I’m getting the “model not found” error. I have been waiting on something for two days, but this is the first time this has happened.
