Previously, I could use the built-in dictation feature for a while, hit the checkbox to exit dictation, then hit the microphone icon again to continue dictating and add to my existing message. Now, the dictation button disappears as soon as any text is entered into the input box (though it remains available in the browser version).
This was the only satisfactory workaround I have to avoid dictating a long message and losing the entire thing when ChatGPT “didn’t quite catch that.” (An issue other users and I have discussed in another thread titled “Requesting better handling of long messages in voice and dictation”)
Resuming dictation is also very helpful if you get interrupted mid-message and want to be able to pick up where you left off.
I completely agree and it’s super frustrating. It has literally broken my workflow. I was hoping that they will fix it in a matter of days but the issue remains. Is there anything we can do to draw their attention to it?
I’m a ND user and have used the microphone on my paid version since the day I got ChatGPT, in fact, it’s how I write most things nowadays. It’s completely annnoying and difficult now. I hate The way that they make changes without taking people into account.
And yes, I could use the mic on my phone, but that’s far worse and I have to spend ages correcting it.
I am chiming in here to say I am also deeply disappointed at the changes to the dictation feature. Usability has been downgraded and I would very much like the change to be reverted!
I am also having thisnissue for some time now. At first i thought it was because i bad no space on my phone and it was my kack of storage space that chat was having all these issues lack of performance. I cleared my phone ,cache snd everything suggested. I still cant record text to speech … stop it to translate and then conntinue talking. Before , i would have to cut off at the 2 min mark and now. .. one time record and thats it. If you text in the box , the option ton record is gone … it seriously sucks ! Im paying monthly for this too
