I hope the platform can at least improve this issue, such as providing reminders during the recharge process with expired credit no refund, because I found on Reddit that other people have also lost money due to this same problem.
I added $70 to my account, with approximately ~$60 remaining unused, It turns to $0.
I received no email notification about credit expiration
No clear expiration warning was provided during the purchase process, I find “Purchased credits expire and are non-refundable.” only in help(.)openai(.)com, this is unreasonable.
I wonder if it’s possible for me to request either restoration of the ~$60 expired credits restoration or a refund of the unused amount.
The overwhelming answer you will get by pressing “help” in your platform account and sending a message, or emailing support, seen repeatedly in those that have tried, is a "working as intended, credits expired after a year and we won’t give you more credit’.
You can make a clearly articulated case that you are covered by consumer protection law that entirely covers your local interactions with the OpenAI entity for your jurisdiction and the type of value account they are offering then covered by that law.
OpenAI also plainly doesn’t refund cash, the payment was instantly converted to value-less credit at the time of purchase.
Accepting this anti-consumer policy for which laws get written, one only remains annoyed that OpenAI immediately zeroes out the balance of an expired credit, not showing the unused remaining amount taken from you to then precisely complain about.
