Expired Credits Are Unacceptable and Bad Customer Policy

I just tried to run some APIs and realized that credit I PAID FOR last year are expired. The fact that credits expire was unexpected, and hidden in the details of the text.

I have no idea how many people hit this here, but I wanted to write the message in protest. There is not reason why paid API credits should expire – it reduces trust in Open AI and is fundamentally bad policy. If others agree, please voice your opinion.

I don’t see any sound business reason why Open AI, with all of its resources, would be burning prepaid user credits – especially without email notice, etc.

subscription in git hub for using copilot with models all in is same. payment from me there was in 3 / JAN, but of 9 / 10 receive message in vs code that limit i reached and all models like gpt codex and all premium was stopped with message for end of limit.

in some before near time subscription was for a month, from date / month to data / month++ and have not any of this :(((((

PROTEST AND FROM TOOO !!!

It sounds like your concerns are about a different product. This topic is about OpenAI’s 1-year expiry policy on prepaid API credits, which expire at the end of the month after a year elapses.

Your anecdote seems to be about using up all of something you bought from someone else by your own usage within a week.

Agreed, I am in the same boat with over $1,000 credits expired. You’d think they would have made that explicit within the console before purchase. Completely unacceptable.

Same with over $1000 expired. Unbelievable policy.

This is the email reply I got from the Support team. Again, unbelievable!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting OpenAI Support.

I understand your concern regarding the expired API credits and the impact this has had, especially given the amount involved. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this situation has caused, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.

OpenAI prepaid API credits are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. This expiration policy is outlined in our documentation, and at this time, we do not send proactive notifications before credits expire. Additionally, credits are non-refundable and non-transferable, except where required by law. Unfortunately, we’re unable to restore or extend expired credits, as detailed in our Service Credit Terms: LINK

That said, we truly value your feedback regarding notification improvements and policy clarity, and I’ll make sure this is shared with the appropriate team.

You can review your API billing details and remaining balance anytime here: LINK

If you have any inquiries or need further clarification at any step, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.
