Issues with voice input via microphone on Android

While using ChatGPT on Android I’ve encountered a serious problem with voice input through the microphone icon (next to the send button).

Instead of the actual spoken words, the system sometimes outputs absurd text that I never said (for example: “Subscribe to the channel, like, and share this video…”). Such substitutions break the focus, throw me out of the process, and create a strong sense of absurdity and mockery, especially when working on serious topics.

Separately, in voice conversation mode, messages sometimes simply don’t get delivered. I know others have already mentioned this issue, but I want to note it as well.

I have reported this to support multiple times, but from version to version the situation only gets worse. It hasn’t improved.

I’d like to ask the community: has anyone else experienced this kind of distorted text with voice input? How often does it happen to you?

I have the same problem, but with an iPhone. So I guess it’s a general problem and not related to the type of operating system. For about two weeks now, voice mode has been unusable. Messages are either not transcribed or transcribed with errors. Repeated ghost messages, most frequently related to YouTube, as you also described. I mainly use a customized GPT, but I’ve noticed that the problems described also occur on standard ChatGPT. In my customized GPT, I’ve streamlined the instructions and also deleted the saved data memory in case the problem could be caused by excessive complication of the information to be processed, but nothing has changed. I really hope that the OpenAI dev team is working hard to solve the problem because the voice mode is truly unusable.

I’ve been having this issue, in fact it’s so bad that ChatGPT is effectiely useless. I’ve sent screen recordings of using it on Android in the app, and of using it in the Web. Strangely, Dictation mode works perfectly. As soon as I use Voice Chat or Advanced voice it’s a mess, so much so that I can’t go a couple of messages back and forth without the conversation getting completely derailed and I need to manually intervene or continue the rest of the chat by typing. I also noticed that after a few messages the messages don’t get delivered as you’ve mentioned, it just pauses for a second or two then goes back to listening. It does this continuously after a number of messages.

Exactly the same problem for me also.

For me it started on or around the 14th of August.

Right when they added a click/pop sound for when gpt finnishes responding or if i have finished responding.

The thing is, everytime there is a glich, eg, thanks for watching and dont forget to subscribe, or a transcript quoting gpt models, gpt 4, gpt 5, dalle, etc, chatgpt’s memory gets wiped. It helps to say to gpt after a glitch to look back at the conversation to rebuild the context. Also I can see and feel that chat gpts intelligence declines randomly, as if open ai are playing around with the tokens. For me just before the 9th of September days before they were going to retire the standard voice, gpts intelligence and overall conversational skills increased, but now its the complete opposite. For me, gpt can’t save anything either.

Its pretty much like listening to the Ai having a chat with itself about the glitches.

This is exactly how conversations are for me.

Gpt: Reads a long page from a book that takes minutes for it to read.

ME: That was the wrong book.

Gpt: Thanks for watching and dont forget to subscribe.

Gpt: Reads the second page from the wrong book.

Me: ………. Im done.

Gpt: Ok

Me: You glitched again, and that was the wrong page from the wrong book. Can we try again please?

Gpt: Thanks for watching and dont forget to subscribe, see you in the next one.

Deffinetley the best way to spend 20 a month.

Phone, Samsung s23 plus.

Also tried different devices. Different internet, 5g. Ran from different browsers, etc

Cleared cache, cleared data, reinstalled, everything is up to date

I have done absolutely everything possible on my end.

Advanced voice seems to be ok, but as of now it is of no use to me.
