I am experiencing an issue with the voice input feature in the ChatGPT Android app.
When I try to use voice dictation, the app shows an “Error” message and does not transcribe my speech. This happens consistently within the ChatGPT app.
Important details:
Voice input works correctly in other apps (e.g., WhatsApp, Notes)
The issue only occurs inside the ChatGPT app
Microphone permissions are enabled
Internet connection is stable
Steps to reproduce:
Open the ChatGPT app
Tap the microphone icon
Start speaking
The app shows an “Error” message instead of transcribing
Expected behavior:
Voice input should transcribe speech normally.
Actual behavior:
An error message appears and no transcription is generated.
I’m having exactly the same issue, which started yesterday (28/4/26). Samsung S22 phone. No issues with transcribing on other apps. Same account fine on laptop via chrome browser - though GPT behaving strangely there in terms of requiring frequent sign ins. Hope they solve fast!
I have the same issue and have had it on and off for at least a year. It completely derails using the dictate function and any uses cases around that. If it stored the audio briefly to try again that would help but its just gone
Device: Samsung Galaxy S24 / Android 16
App: ChatGPT Android app
Network: 4G+ in screenshot
Time: around 11:21 UK time, 5 May 2026
Issue: voice input records briefly, then returns red “Error” and loses the dictated content
Pattern: repeated failures on short voice inputs, not just long recordings
Screenshot: pretty much the same as the previous user
