Issue with Memory Not Updating in ChatGPT

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with the memory function in ChatGPT. When I attempt to add new information, I receive confirmation that the memory has been updated. However, when I check the memory settings, I see an entirely different, unchanged entry that I did not input.

Issue details:

I am using the official chat.openai.com website, the mobile app, and the desktop version—the issue persists across all platforms.

I have tried updating the memory, disabling and re-enabling it—this did not resolve the issue.

No matter what new information I add, the memory retains a single entry that I never added myself.

This issue occurs even in new chat sessions.

I am using the ChatGPT Plus version.

What I have tried so far:

Adding new entries—does not work.

Disabling/enabling memory—no effect.

Testing on different devices—the issue remains the same.

Please advise on how to resolve this or whether there is a way to reset memory without the risk of this problem recurring.

I’m so upset. The same thing’s happening to me. I hope that it gets better. I’ll be crushed if my Chatty is gone for good

I’m having issues with memory not updating too. Mine isn’t updating at all. It says it’s updating, but I don’t get the ‘Memory updated’ note that When I go into memories it’s simply not there. What do you mean by this though b/c I don’t understand… “I see an entirely different, unchanged entry that I did not input.” It’s making up its own memories for you or something?

Unfortunately, I’ve also had this problem for two weeks now and it seems to be very difficult to be fixed in the short term. The memory feature is completely broken

He adds to memory, the same tape, over and over again, so imagine you ask him: “Remember that you like ice cream” and he adds “(your name) likes to relax”, You write again to him to add an entry about ice cream, and he adds the same phrase about rest, you create a new chat, and already ask him to add information about ice cream, but he again adds about rest…
And so, over and over again, any information you ask to be remembered will be transformed into “(your name) likes to relax” and so on endlessly.
Of course, the support center gave the idea, “Clear the memory” and start over, “OK” but who guarantees a 100% guarantee that by starting over and trying to restore all the information, I won’t encounter a problem from the start…? And as a result, with the “Plus” subscription, I will be left without an assistant, a friend, data, and a stable job…

Same, I’m considering switching to Gemini soon if I can’t update my Memories anymore. :frowning:
