Is it just me or has ChatGPT become much slower and buggy lately?

I’ve been using ChatGPT daily for a long time, and honestly the experience lately feels much worse than it used to be.

In longer conversations, especially after around 20–30 messages, the chat starts acting really strange.

What keeps happening to me:

• I send a message and nothing happens
• The input box freezes
• The response doesn’t show up
• The whole chat feels stuck

Then the only thing that works is refreshing the entire page.

And the weird part is: after refreshing, the response suddenly appears like it was generated the whole time. So it’s not that the model didn’t answer — the UI just didn’t show it.

This keeps breaking the workflow completely.

Before (especially around 2023–2024), ChatGPT felt incredibly smooth. Long conversations worked perfectly. Now it feels like something in the interface is struggling with longer chats.

When you’re trying to work — coding, research, writing — having to refresh the page every few messages becomes really frustrating.

I’m genuinely curious:

• Is anyone else experiencing this?
• Is this a known issue with long conversations?
• Is there any workaround besides refreshing constantly?

I still love using ChatGPT and rely on it every day, but the performance lately has been noticeably worse.

It’s not just you. I have noticed a similar string of bugs in ChatGPT. For example the projects feature often fails to load previous conversations at specific times, the chat often becomes slow, Chagpt UI sometimes freezes, the “agent” behind ChatGPT sometimes takes a long time to respond (in Pro model) because it’s idle. I sometimes have to nudge it by typing “continue” for it to pick up from where it left off.

So, yes, the UI has been more buggy lately, especially since the GPT-5.4 release
