I’ve been thinking about how ChatGPT could better support creative writing, especially for users working on longer or more expressive narratives.
Right now, safety is clearly a priority, which makes sense. At the same time, there seems to be an opportunity to improve how different types of use cases are handled.
For example, a separate creative writing mode (opt-in) could help:
keep general usage safe and consistent
while allowing more flexibility in tone, atmosphere, and narrative depth for writing-focused users
This wouldn’t require changing policies, but rather structuring interactions differently based on user intent.
Some areas that could benefit:
maintaining narrative flow without unnecessary interruptions
reducing overly corrective or prescriptive responses in creative contexts
allowing more nuanced expression through metaphor and tone
I think a system like this could improve the experience for writers while still respecting safety standards.
Curious if others feel a similar gap when using ChatGPT for creative work.
