Thank you for your work on ChatGPT. I would like to share a feature request that I believe could be useful for writers, editors, and other creative users who work with complex fictional material.
I would like to suggest a dedicated writer/editor mode for dark fiction, psychological drama, and emotionally complex scenes.
The goal is not to generate prohibited content. The goal is to help authors safely revise their own drafts: preserve a victim-centered perspective, remove graphic or romanticized framing, clarify consent and boundaries, and make difficult scenes more responsible instead of more explicit.
I write the story myself. I use ChatGPT mainly as an editor and assistant: to improve clarity, structure, grammar, tone, emotional logic, and safety of wording.
When a response is blocked entirely, I lose the chance to understand which parts were unsafe and how to rewrite them responsibly. It would be very helpful if ChatGPT could provide a safe editorial explanation instead of removing the entire response before the user can read it.
For example, a writer/editor mode could:
- identify risky phrasing;
- explain why a scene may be unsafe;
- suggest safer wording;
- preserve the psychological meaning of the scene;
- avoid graphic or romanticized descriptions;
- help portray trauma, coercion, abuse, and a victim-centered perspective responsibly.
This could also be offered as a separate subscription tier, for example “ChatGPT for Authors” or “Writer Mode.” Many writers would be willing to pay for a professional editorial workspace with better support for long-form fiction, character continuity, project memory, draft analysis, and safe revision of sensitive scenes.
Such a plan would not need to loosen safety rules. Instead, it could provide better tools for understanding those rules, rewriting risky passages responsibly, and preserving the artistic and psychological meaning of a scene without making it graphic or harmful.
This would be especially useful for authors who are not asking ChatGPT to write controversial content for them, but need an editorial tool to make their own writing clearer, safer, and more accurate.
