Trying to create image for some title, from morning it’s it getting created with provide topic facing issue from today. Even i tried for some other text as well.

Could you please share a bit more detail about where this happens? It would be easier to understand the issue with a little more context.
Also, does it fail for every image prompt or only for specific prompts? And does retrying help?
getting this error, almost for all images. Not with specific image creation

@LarisaHaster I’ve been getting the same error. It happens usually in a new chat instance where thinking is involved. Seems the request for an image doesn’t pass correctly and the thinking model gets stuck. Haven’t had this issue instant models.
It doesn’t happen when I go to https://chatgpt.com/images/ though. It’s quite a tricky one to spot. Usually asking to do the image or going directly to the link solved the problem for me. But it’s just a workaround until the issue has been solved.

Could you guys also share where this happens ChatGPT web, iOS/Android app or the desktop app? So I can also see if I can reproduce this.
It may also help to know whether this happens in a new chat only and which model you are using when it fails.
If it works through the images page but fails in normal chat, that may help narrow down where the issue is.

I’m experiencing a reproducible issue with ChatGPT image generation.
Problem:
- When I ask ChatGPT to generate an image in a conversation, the chat always displays “Image generation failed.”
- However, the image is actually generated successfully and appears under “My Images”
Expected behavior:
The generated image should appear directly in the conversation instead of showing an error.
Actual behavior:
- Chat displays: “Image generation failed”
- Image is available in My Images.
Things I’ve tried:
- Clicking “Try again”
- Starting a new chat
- Generating simple prompts (apple, mango, jersey, etc.)
- The issue occurs consistently.
Environment:
- Browser: Google Chrome
- OS: Windows
- Plan: ChatGPT Go
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a workaround or is this a known issue?
I am having the same issue, on both Windows and Linux, but it did work on my Android phone. I have now found that the images are in “My Images”.
I get this error on the web front-end using Firefox (Windows and macOS), Edge (Windows), Safari (macOS) and the Windows App. Haven’t seen this error on iPhone.

I am using chrome browser and facing this issue from the 6 hours
I am also facing the same issue. What is amusing to me is that it has been happening to so many people, yet no acknowledgment from ChatGPT or OpenAI. I was on Twitter (X) and also other forums, and there are 1000s of people talking about it, some having this problem for the whole day, myself personally for about 3 hours now.
I tested this on my side with Edge, Chrome, the Windows desktop app, and the iOS app and image generation worked for me in all of them.
But since several users are reporting similar failures, this may still be something OpenAI Support/team needs to look into.
Hopefully this gets resolved soon for everyone affected. In the meantime, if possible, you could try using the app/browser where ChatGPT image generation still works for you as a temporary workaround.

Had GPT assess the situation and this is what I got:
Date/time: 7 July 2026, around 11:16 CEST
Client: ChatGPT web, desktop browser
Browser/OS: Firefox on Windows 10/11
Plan: ChatGPT Prolite
Model/session: GPT-5.5 Thinking with image generation
Region/timezone: Switzerland / Europe-Zurich
Observed behavior:
The first request appeared to trigger image generation but returned no visible image/result in the chat. There was no visible refusal, no safety message, and no clear error message shown to the user.
Expected behavior:
The system should generate four images, or return a clear error message if generation fails.
Retry behavior:
A follow-up retry using the same concept worked and generated images successfully. This suggests the original prompt was valid and the issue was likely transient, related to generation orchestration, queueing, or UI rendering rather than content policy.
Why this seems like a platform hiccup:
The content was benign high-fantasy imagery. The same concept generated successfully afterward. Other users in the Discourse thread are reportedly seeing similar intermittent image-generation failures.
You got it to work after a retry? Mine doesn’t work on retry. Did you change anything?

These are usually the few basic things that are recommend to try when there are errors/issues, just to narrow it down:
- log out and log back in
- refresh / restart the browser or app
- update the app/browser if there is an update available
- clear cache/cookies
- try another browser or device
