Without adding number I’m not able sign into codeX (vs code IDE)
No option to use SMS
Welcome to the forum!
Searching the OpenAI help center for “whatsapp” returns several relevant articles. This one may be useful:
Can I phone verify over email/call instead of SMS?
If it does not address your issue, review the other results, as they may provide additional guidance.
If you find a solution that works, consider replying with your findings so others can benefit.
I have already read this
Can I phone verify over email/call instead of SMS?
Answer
No. The phone verification can only be completed with a text message via SMS (or WhatsApp, if available in your country). The code cannot be sent via email or done over phone call.
Look here
can only be completed with a text message via SMS
But no option is available for sms
I also found this article: https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8983038-which-countries-do-you-support-for-whatsapp-phone-verification
The article says that there are certain countries that don’t support SMS, but they do support WhatsApp. You can check if this is something that affects you.
That article doesn’t actually say SMS isn’t supported in those countries. It says WhatsApp is available as an alternative verification method in some regions.
So it’s not that SMS doesn’t work there
it’s just that WhatsApp can also be used if available.
“In certain countries you can complete phone verification with WhatsApp instead of via an SMS.”
You’re absolutely right, read that one
too quickly, sorry for that!
And I’ve tried to find any other info about why the SMS doesn’t appear as an option and couldn’t find anything related to that. I have WhatsApp, so I’ve actually never thought about SMS as an option.
The best way, if there’s no one else that actually knows about why the SMS option doesn’t show as an option, is to contact Help center https://help.openai.com/en and ask them.
Again I’m sorry for the misleading information.
Yeah, you’re right. SMS is still the default and WhatsApp is just an optional alternative in some regions.
If you’re not seeing an SMS option at all, that’s a bit unusual. It might just be the UI defaulting to WhatsApp or a temporary issue.
Could you try refreshing, re-entering your number, or using a different browser/device? If it still doesn’t show up after that, it’s probably best to raise a support ticket so the team can take a closer look.
