GPTstore failure Reasons: Ranking, Featured, categories?

I read a bunch of forum topics and realized there s a lot of negative feedback and it seems to me OpenAi stopped paying attention to GPTstore.

No, really, there are great tools build within the store, its just that the way its managed - they arent even noticed because of how poorly managed it is.

Todays Featured:

So basically in featured we can see:

  1. Website Generator B12 - Literally a lead Gen GPT that simply buys traffic from other gpts, occupuying the GPTstore entirely (I found it advertised in 11 GPTs) . Has a simple action passing over users request, not using ANY chatgpt functionality. Definitely deserves a featured, good job.
  2. Write for me - appears #2 in Trending.
as well as #1 in writing. As well as #1 if you search for Write. Definitely feels “underrated and unique” to be featured.
3 and 4 - same - appear to be on the top of their categories and (What a surprise!) appear on top of search for same terms thus getting the most traffic. Nice.

Anyways, in the world where even the featured section is being used for promoting Lead-Gen GPTs that are already occupying all the GPTstore Openai is basically killing the diversity and usability of their own tool. (yes, this is why governments fight with monopolies - to keep the market being effective). As for me, keymate or Wolfram or any other FUNCTIONAL tool would be so much better.

No, really, if you ask ChatGPT on how to build an effective marketplace and what should be featured you d be surprised to understand it gives really good answers but… openai doesn’t seem to follow any of those  Maybe they should use their own tools more often?

There s been a lot of comments on these topics - people seem to be unhappy about a bunch of aspects.

I believe that when there were plugins they at least were enhancing the capabilities of ChatGPT - not the case anymore.

The current “TOP” is a soup of GPTs based on better keyword namings (#1 is image generator, Math (currently undergoing some shenanigans to trick the algorithm), B12 website generator buying traffic from others. NONE OF THESE IMPROVE GPTsrore or are “native” tools that have actions or real functionality beyond ChatGPT that helps like “Keymate” back in the days.

I think the ones we should prioritize are the ones that show real value of what can be built. Like at least something that produces something with its actions rather then just passing over some text (or not even doing that).

Funny - just talked to a guy working on a PhD on the subject. Quoting him “well unlike other places like appstore, the GPTs on the top don’t seem to change” - kinda proves the point

OpenAI is notorious for picking things up, putting them down, and never visibly touching them again.

The Plugin store unfortunately was a victim to this. Let me tell you guys this: Since it’s creation, all the way to it’s end, the plugin store was only capable of sorting alphabetically.

This led to people creating plugins such as “AAAAAAAAA great plugin”. Yes, the front page during this time was basically filled with titles that yelled.

GPTs are incredibly easy to use & create, and I think OpenAI has realized that the “moat” of GPTs revolve around their actions, their interactions with already existing infrastructures. The limitations of them being stuck in the ChatGPT interface ruins a lot of potential. I have been HOPING that one day OpenAI would say “GPTs are now bi-directional with Assistants!” but they never have. This would be revolutionary for no-code developers (the people they tried to appeal to)

For example, I have private GPTs built for clients that can perform CRUD operations on their behalf. I also have my own personal GPTs that know my business and help me make decisions. I have no desire to use highly opinionated GPTs when in most cases I can just make my own and have much more steerability with them.

The GPTs, like a “website generator” are incredibly lacking. People do not want a text-based adventure to solve problems. They want a fully functional interface that comes equipped with LLMs. Not center-pieced by them.

Intuitively, it makes sense, and I think OpenAI has constantly been encouraged to try and fulfill this intuition of “some” kind of an app store. It just seems to me that in practice it doesn’t do as well as anticipated. Mostly because they don’t seem to care enough to nurture and cultivate the stores that they implement. Both the plugin store and now the GPT store have devolved into stagnation and SEO’d garbage.

Well technically plugins were a test rollout, GPTstore was something that was positioned waaay more seriously. They even promised to pay the creators. why were the algorithms so poor then?? Im pretty sure they could have done a much better job - maybe they didnt have any resources simply. Simple rules for ranking + prioritizing the “native” GPTs that are using the functionality would have been so much better for everyone so we don’t see “image generator” and “canva” or “website genrator B12” on top.
