Is a subscription to Pro required to generate an acceptable Assistant API key to build an agent? Trying to create an agent that can search the internet and generate content from there

Are you talking about actual assistants in the API, or are you just concerned with custom GPTs with tasks and operator and web search and such?
With the custom GPTs you may need a pro account, but I’m not sure if it’s guaranteed that operator and tasks will be unlocked for everyone at this time (I could be wrong, dunno) Everything related to this will be on the chatgpt.com domain.
If you want to use the API for assistants (which don’t have taks or operator or web search capabilities at this time, you’d need to code or integrate them yourself) then indeed, you don’t need a pro account. You don’t need a chatgpt account at all. All API stuff will be on the platform.openai.com subdomain, where you will need to pre-purchase credits which will be used as you go.
