As someone who has spent probably about 50 hours or more reading post requesting folders for ChatGPT, I can now say thanks to the OpenAI team including Kevin Weil, Drew Schuster, and Thomas Dimson.

If I share a chat thread, I cannot move that thread into a project folder. If I create a chat thread in a project I cannot share that thread. This means I can’t organize my threads using project folders because they cannot be shared.

I can’t believe how much I’ve been using this and how useful it is. I’ve been using it non-stop and have plenty of ideas for how they can improve this next. One thing I’ve noticed is that in Project chats I might say something that is specific about the project that it will record in the global memory, if that was more associated to that project chat would be good I think, even if the global memory just prefixes the project that it was written in a way that makes it more context aware for any of my global chats, or they could add memory to projects themselves. The benefit I’m finding with Projects is how context aware it is which helps so much. I prefer it to the overhead of making a GPT for something light-weight. It’s working well.

Are you aware that each project can have custom instructions? You should be able to remove the text for the memory and move it into the custom instructions for the project (have not tested this but don’t see why it would not work).
