Hi OpenAI team,
I’m experiencing a consistent issue when typing in Chinese using the macOS version of the ChatGPT desktop app.
Issue description:
When I use the built-in macOS Pinyin input method to type Chinese in the ChatGPT app, the first character I type often gets lost or doesn’t show up in the input box. This happens especially when starting a new message.
Environment details:
• Device: MacBookAir M3
• macOS Version:Sequoia15.0.1
• ChatGPT App Version: 1.2025.077
• Input Method: macOS built-in Simplified Chinese Pinyin
Steps to reproduce:
-
Open the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS.
-
Switch to the Chinese Pinyin input method.
-
Try typing a Chinese sentence (for example: “你好”).
-
The first character is often missing or only appears after typing more characters.
Expected behavior:
All Chinese characters should display in the input box as you type.
Actual behavior:
The first character is often lost or delayed. This makes it hard to use the app for Chinese conversations.
I’ve confirmed this does not happen in other native Mac apps (like Notes, Safari, or Messages), and the issue persists whether I use the default or a third-party Pinyin input method.
Could the development team please look into this? It’s affecting the usability of ChatGPT for Chinese-speaking users.
Thank you!
